While trying to diagnose this damned squealing problem I decided to check my goodiety exhaust (soon to be replaced), umm is it just me or does this sound bad?
There's 4 tips to the exhaust, 2 per muffler, the outside 2 tips are pumping out hot gas like a normal engine, the middle 2 were pushing through just plain cool air?!@#! And those 2 with the cool air was just puttering out. The kentucky boys that did the exhaust did god knows what but that worries me.
This was in the garage and the engine hadn't really heated up much yet but that just sounds wrong.
The two inner ones are mostly for looks, there is just a small hole in there.
There are replacement mufflers ( I used Dynomax) that have four functioning outlets.
You've discovered a little known fact.........! Congrats.
There was a time were there were literally 2 different muffler styles used on the C4s. Non Z51 cars got the ones like yours with 2 outlets basically for looks, and Z51 cars got ones with 4 fully functional outlets. Reportedly these Z51 style mufflers were good for another 5hp.
I got the allens turbo muffs, but this would be good for people having trouble passing emmission testing, just tell the guy to hook up to the inner 2 pipes! :chevy
I was scard goodieless like I was having a misfire or something f'd up in there, I know my exhaust was basically the standard Z52 till the kentucky boys started chopping goodie out of it, going to replace the whole thing shortly.
Good to know they like the scare the beejesus out of us beginner wannabe mechanics with stupid goodie like that!!
The general does some f'd up things sometime :jester
Oh well **** on ford... I've got one of those too ;) and it has more problems then I can count and it's barely a year old.
:boxing :chevy
You can take a pipe or something like that to a factory muffler and knock out the metal disc that blocks off the one side. That little hole is there to keep condensation out of that chamber of the muffler. It sounds a lot better and it's worth 5 hp. There is some resonance at 1500 to 1800 rpm, but no worse than most after market systems.
