Default 90 headlights

The headlights on my 90 just flop around like all the teeth are stripped on the gears. I haven't taken any of these headlight motors apart so I was wondering if the bushings or pins that everyone is talking about are bad in mine. My 85 headlights didn't have those pins and I had to replace the gears to get them to work properly. If it is the bushings I will order a new set from Mid America.

sounds like you just need the bushings, but you cannot really tell until you open them up. You can use nuts instead of the bushings. I did and have had no problems.....

In the interest of sparing the expensive parts, I would suggest using nylon bushings. I would hate to have to replace the motors instead of the cheap bushings.

EDIT: You an get the bushings from Home Depot or Lowes for much less than MAD charges - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...m_id=48&arch=1

My 1990 did the same thing, first on passenger side then drivers side. When I opened up the casing, I found shredded plastic. I had bought the MAD delrin bushings as well new gears. I didn't need the gears but put them in anyway. It was actually easy once I had a long torx set. Pulling the headlight from the hood was easy. Beware of fragile plastic casing and go slow so you do not crack it. Make note of where all the shim washers go. I lost track and had to pull the other motor apart to get the first one back together right.

It's your bushings. I'll lay odds on it. Are you hearing the characteristic, THUNKA-THUNKA-THUNKA, THUNK!! noise four to six seconds after your headlamp door closes? Thought so.

Check the C4 TechTips sections for the repair advice. Corvette Fever also has a decent how-to article below:

I also like the HomeDepot bushings. Much cheaper than MAM, Corvette America or Eckler's.

Go to HD and look for UPC package code 30699 87278. The item number is 595609 if you'd prefer to have one of the good-lookin' cashier slims to look it up for you and save you a trip down the aisles.

You'll need 3 packs of 2 ea. for a total of 6 spacers to do both headlights. They measure 27/64" x 29/64" (2 for .69 cents.)

Can't beat that!

Picked up 3 packages yesterday for a grand total of $1.39. Put them in last night and success but the drivers side stutters a bit when it is about halfway closed. It ends up closing all the way but they sure don't work as goos as the ones on my 85.
