there is no cheap system for a c4.you get what you pay for.what other mods have been done to the car?the stock mufflers are fine to 400hp.they are so far back they are not a restriction.lose the cats if you want to,however if they are not clogged you wont find much there.i wouldnt waste any money on headers until i could afford longtubes.in the meantime you could replace the resonator(i'd buy the stock one)with an x-pipe.if you want noise put the mufflers of your choice back there.all in all a pretty good system to start with.

You won't find a better exhaust as far as flow is concerned. For sound and appearance the choices are many, but expensive.

Eliminating the mufflers for better sound is the cheapest option, but you will lose a tiny bit of power. It's worth it though, you can't beat the sound.

Better than your stock system, that is.

Watch, I bet you get mail from members offering to buy your stock
system if you decide to 'upgrade.' If it was practical to get the
thing here some way, I'd be interested in buying it off you.

Check on the Flowmaster Force II catback. I'm sure it's much cheaper than a Corsa or B&B system and it sounds very mellow and sweet.

I've spent a small fortune on my project car this winter, so I was looking for the most cost effective approach to fixing my failed mufflers.

After lengthy research here in the archives eliminating the mufflers is the way I decided to go. My stock exhaust is in perfect shape aside from the mufflers are cracked where the exhaust pipes meet the mufflers on the inlet side. I looked at mufflers, contemplated building my own system (I work as a fabricator) but in the end the best decision based on all the info I found here was to simply eliminate the rear mufflers.

Can't wait to hear it this spring!

My super quiet mufflers were free and for some reason I consistently gained 2 tenths in the 1/8th mile with them. I can talk on the speaker phone and listen to the radio now because its to quiet inside. Sneaking in my GF's house has never been so easy...
