85 vette, modded see mods in my sig, i had to select hi perf ignition module, Coil & rotor and plug wires.
currently using Hypertech coil and rotor, Accel module 7 pin and Accel 8.8 wires along with MSD 6AL ignition. Just replaced Ac Delco spark plugs temporarily but later will replace by Autolite AR-3933 which is recommended for DArt Al Heads.
Iam leaning towards MSD coil and Rotor but msd module is a 4 pin cant be used with 7 pin style, Which one u prefer for a modded car.
Thanx.
Ummm those ar-3933 plugs are cooooold. I wouldn't run them if I were you. They are like 3-4 steps colder than the plug you are running right now. And I doubt the plugs you are running will tell you, you need to be runing that cold of a plug.
Plugs are not a problem, i do have Cut back AC delco too, infact i do Bosch platinum 4+ plugs too but i do not know that AR 3933 are that cold i dont need them then. Alright how about coil and module ?.
IMO, even years ago there was better choices than accel parts. I didn't see changing the dwell with the accell module helped my performance. I did not do back to back dyno or 1/4 runs to prove this, just didn't feel any real change. Hopefully others will chime in here with dyno etc. results.
I think coils may help as far as not being effected by the heat as much as a stock one, for that reason I have a MSD 2025. I considered using a MSD 6al or the likes, only for the features as rev. limiter.
Car is running...OK. It has slowly developed a slight miss. Power is down but not tremendously. Judging by the way the timing jumps, we think it is the dizzy. So I am currently swapping it all out for a steal of a deal I got on a 8366 Msd billet dist, 6al, and a blaster 3 coil. Hopefully that will resolve the miss issue. She still needs to go in for tuning though, as all the plugs are showing pig rich.
Besides that just fine. I have been thinking more and more about changing to a larger cam than the 213 being that my numbers are pretty good for running way rich and running such a small cam. But since it is so expensive to go to a roller I will probably just switch blocks before I do that!
Oh and the car is DD during the summer. If I keep my foot out of it I've been getting around 25mpg. So not bad for a pig-rich stroker!
We'll see.
Sorry I can't help ya more,
Here is a bump for ya!
Sami, a few guys here including myself have problems with our tachs going haywire at WOT with the MSD coil . Changing the bushing in between the coil/cap made no difference fwiw. Im going back to a stocker (Napa?)when $ permits. Running stock module, too.
USAonlyway: for right now iam thinking to put stock delco ignition coil n rotor and delco module since i have a msd 6AL that will sure boost delco ignition, 6AL will act like an amplifier and when i isolate the problem i have right now than in future will upgrade to msd ignition or who knows i will stay with stock delco, right now i have hypertech coil n rotor and Accel dist module also i will check for tach filter grounding situation as why my ignition going south,
why u want to change cam look at corvette0096 85 vette got 385 Rhp and 400+ Rt on a 383/219/AFR race 195 heads/SR.
I thought u did 383 on a roller block, did u buy retro fit lifters to install 219 cam, how is the reliability on those Retro Fit lifters.
Believe me if my motor went south i will save money and slammed roller block 383 just like corvette0096 or i will give up and buy LT4/LT1 and stay partial stock iam tired of these major mods no time for that. By this weekend i should be able to conclusion as what happend my car everything is tight except power loss. I will keep u update. thanks for sharing ur knowledge. u know our cars are twins.
Our cars are pretty d@mn close to identical twins! Hell, the power output is even pretty similar!
No, I did the 383 on the flat-tappet block. I have a LPE 213 grind in right now. Not the 219. So I know nothing about the durability of retro-fit rollers, a concern of mine as well.
If you end up having to go to a new motor. You should be able to sell yours and come up dead even with a roller block, in similar if not better, condition. And that is definitely what I would do. Then just throw that proven combo together and have fun!
Sounds like cuisinart agrees with you, that you should go back to stock. Hopefully you figure out what is causing these ignition issues. Good Luck!
