My 93 has started cutting out, at an increasing occurrence, this week. It will be running fine and then all of a sudden it's like someone just twisted the distributor a quarter turn.
I thought at first it could be bad gas. I had filled up Monday and that's when the first symptom started. It was more of a severe and sudden hesitation that day. I have ran most of the tank down and added both new gas (from a different station) and some Heat. Still the problem persists.
The opti was replaced about 3 years ago (around 15, 000 miles) as was the fuel filter. Someone mentioned to me that this was a symptom of a failing fuel pump. Is it?
I have yet to get under the hood. Any suggestions of where to start?
If it isn't throwing code(s)...I'd put a fuel pressure guage on the schrader, tape it to the windshield and go for a ride. When it cuts out and the fp remains steady, then its probably ign.......if the pressure drops, then trouble shoot the fuel system.
Well today it completely pooped out on me on the highway. I have yet to test the fuel pressure but I have a good idea that it may be ok. It acts like it's getting no spark at all. I can smell gas when trying to start it.
I'll try to test the fuel pressure this weekend. I'll keep you guys posted.
