Wondering if installing headers could be done by myself or should be left to the pros. They're just the Hooker emissions Headers going on a '92 auto coupe. Also, got them from someone else used, so will stock gaskets work? Should I re-use my stock bolts or get new ones and are the special bolts if so? Haven't been into vettes for long, and not sure what to expect. I've mainly dealt with vws and older cadillacs. Also, thinking of adding x-pipe or crossover. Do you eliminate the resonator or leave it?
I had never done it myself before either. But I don't think is was all that bad. I don't know exactly the details of the install on the 92. You should have new bolts, You can get a set of new gaskets at one of your local parts store for under 10 bucks so its worth it. You will have to probably do something about the brackets for the A/C compressor and Alternator. You'll have to raise the car up in the air in order to work underneath it. I don't think it would be all that bad to do the install yourself.
Good luck with it.

If you have a decent set tools you can do it, get her up on 4 jackstands, soak all rusty exhaust bolts with wd, let set for a day. Remove exhaust system/cats, ft tires, inner fender wells, sparkplugs, alternator, exhaust manifolds. Your 92 has 2- o2 sensors LT, RT, not sure if Hookers have an o2 bung in both headers, you will need them. Also not sure if they (hookers) have AIR hookups, not a big deal, most folks dump the AIR system. Clean all gasket surface's, I used Fel-Pro 1406's, install headers with new bolts, I used the Stage 8's. I was able to connect to my stock exhaust system, you will need reducers and band clamps, the stock system is 2 3/4" in diameter.
Check "My Corvette Photo's" for some pic's of my connection.
Lets us know how it goes... Good Luck...
I'm not an LTx guy but it cant be that different than my L98. If you have four jackstands and a good basic tool set you can probably handle it.
My best advise on a header install is to put the headers and gaskets in place and start all the bolts and dont tighten them. Then go underneath and line up the collectors and start the bolts to Y or X pipe (whichever you use). Get it all lined up and bolts started then go back up top and tighten the header bolts and then go back below and tighten everything.
This gives you a little play to align everything, because if you tighten everything as you go sometimes it's tough to start the collector bolts and what-not. Doing this will save you some possible grief.
Sounds great guys. I'm going to run to my local speed shop and see if they have the stuff I need and try to do it next weekend, because it looks like it might snow here today. Thanks.
