Hi All, I have an 88 convertible, auto with the electronic heat/ac controls...C68? ANyway, I had a problem with the air doors and determined that the vacuum check valve was bad. (It was melted through) I went to replace it, and the plastic vacuum line to the heat/ac controls broke off about 6" further back.
Question, where does the line come through the firewall. Getting to the control head seems pretty simple. Does the line come straight through or is it in one of the wire looms? I either need to replace it or find it and get a length of rubber vacuum line on it to go to the check valve. I looked in the Helms, and did not find the answer. Any info would be appreciated.
If you can see the black vac line left of wiper motor, you will see it looks like it heads into the large bundle of wires and then into the cockpit. I can verify as soon as the sun comes up.
I am guessing that I will have to r+r the distributer to make some room to get down there? Pardon my ignorance and inexperience, but this is further into this engine than I have been.
Pulled distributer. The hard vacuum line to the HVAC head was broken off and poking out about 1/16" from a large wire loom. Had to cut the loom open to access the line. Managed to get a rubber vacuum line on to it and then to the check valve. All put back together now. I need to set timing. Helms says disconnect the EST connecter which shows as the 3 wire connecter behind the dist. I thought we pulled the tan wire which reads tach.????Can someone refresh my recollection? Hopefully it is the tan wire as the connector behind the dist looks to ba a pain.
Thanks to all for your attention and responses.
Got it! I was looking at the wrong wire. Tan/Blk stripe. Timing set.
Thanks for the help. As always the Forum comes through.
You guys are great! Many thanks. On to the next project.
