5th SLAVE cylinder

Otherwise, your inorganic choices are water and liquid mercury as fluids.
Shows you how much of a chemist I am

Just in case though I did some R and R on the other two I have and carry brake fluid in my tool bag. Nothing quite like having back-up.

My second replacement slave had a crack at the weld (which GM would not warranty because I installed it myself; they claimed I over torqued it.) so I had a buddy that works at a CNC shop bust it apart and we cleaned the inside. After doing that we rehoned the cylinder and welded it back up and painted it. The lock ring and boot were in perfect shape so I just put it back together.
My other "replacement" slave is the original, which when failed only had a torn boot. I just cleaned this one up real good inside and out and all it needs now is a boot.
Before installing slave #3 I took a real close look at it and found that the lock ring was not seated right on this one either so I took it apart cleaned and scuffed the inside of the cylinder where it is painted and then reseated the lock ring and boot. So far so good.
I got a bad brand new opti and a bad brand new waterpump from GM and it would seem that they are letting QUALITY go to __ll because these cars are old and they are not making profit on them.
Those of you that say the slave lasted one year, or 8 months, you don't really know that, you know that is when you found it to be leaking but it may have been leaking from day one, the GM ones are junk and it's not only a recent batch, I have 2 ZR1 and replaced my first slave 5 years ago and after only a few hundred miles I found it to be leaking but it could have been leaking for a long time, they have been junk for a long time, the Raysbestos looks like it comes from the same manufacturer and that's the problem, there is alternatives out there but we don't know who actually make them, the only one that I found to be different than the GM part is PBR, the housing is cast iron and can be bought for $71 including shipping, I will try one of them next time, every others I bet they all come from the same supplier, I emailed Raysbestos to ask if they make them or if they come from and outside source and they never replied.
I now have 3 bad slaves in 2 different cars and less than a thousand miles and one that failed before I even start the car.

My question on this line of topic is should I just wait until the slave gives up, or should I go ahead and replace as preventative maintenance? The car has 154k on it. I'm afraid of changing out a working one for one that may fail in 3-4k. These failure rates are alarming.

Edit
It's an Australian company, and I've sent an email inquiring about the slaves. Their web site doesn't mention any parts other than brakes.
