Default Dakota Digital Install Help Please

Hey guys n gals,

I have a 93 auto that came with a d36 with 2.59's. I have installed a d44 with 4.10's and my speedo is way off. At first I was going to go the gear route but I scored a Dakota Digital SGI-5 A for free so i'll try that first. (CFI-EFI - I know they're a waste but free is free )

My one and only question is, which wire (color wise) off of the vss do I use and where is the best place to tap it?

If anyone has installed one of these in the past and has any info or tips, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Should have done the gear change for the VSS when youput the d44 in.. Costs only like $10..

I know I should have and will if this thing doesn't work right. The thing was that I had the free box for a while and I was told the VSS I needed was discontinued.

What's involved in changing the gears and the vss anyway?

Read down this old link.
It is about the Abbott box, but the wires you cut should be the same.

On my 88, I installed my dakota digital sgi-5 under the upper dash panel, and velcro'd the box on top of the internal a/c ducts.

I tapped into the vss input to the instrument cluster, also found convenient power and grounds to use there. I don't think I'd want to put it under the car near the trans. Inside the rocker panel would be a possibility also.

If I need to adjust, I just have to pop off the dash panel and re-set the dip switches.

Sounds like you have it worked out now, but I tapped into the wire coming from the VSS on the tranny and put the Dakota Digital between the cut wires.

Which color wire???

From the other post it looks like I will be tapping the yellow wire going into the VSS and putting the Dakota Digital inbetween. Sound right?

Well I doubt the 1985 manual tranny wire would be the same color, perhaps some with your model year could chime in.

On my 88 the yellow wire is the speed sensor hi or signal, and the purple wire is the speed sensor low, or signal ground.

I used application #2 according to the SGI-5 instructions for 4k-8k ppm signals.

Unfortunately I didn't make note of which wire I actually used, but from the schematic, it looks like its the yellow wire or speed sensor hi.

Based on my car, you won't see a signal on drive off until approximately 3 mph.

Report back when you get it working.

The tech support said to use Application #2 but they could not tell me which wire would to use. It counds like i should use the yellow wire so i'll give it a try.

Anypne else???
