Besides something being bent, I think that your car is trying to say to you, "I'm a Corvette, buy me some Bilsteins".
Yeah thanks I was wondering what kind of car I drove around all day. The previous owner bought the Gabriels and I am buying some KYBs from what I have heard on the forum is that KYBs are just as good as anything out there they just dont last as long.
Ive read several people saying that they prefer KYB to Bilsteins. So I guess shocks would be a matter of opinion, wouldnt you?
All our C4s camn with Bose, and now we know the Bose system sucks, does that mean we shoudl keep something in the car just because it was OE?
Shocks have nothing to do with how it sits at rest. You have other issues that are causing this mabey alignment or worse.Does the car sit level at rest?
There is no noticeable difference in the way the car rests, I too was checking that.
How can I check the alignment?
Agreed. Something is bent... we need some pictures.
I will try and take some pics in the next hour. Last time I tried to post pics on the forum it wouldn't let me. I will try here again soon. I will take pics of both front wheel wells.
I think if you did a complete search, you'll see there is a ton of opinions that say OE Bilsteins are alot better than cheap KYB's.
There are plenty of people that think KYBs are good enough for the value.
and at $30 a shock compared to 3-4 times as much if they are comparable I will take the $30 ones and replace them every three years.
Again good job on not helping the situation. which shock is better is not what the thread is about.
The KYB shocks are waaaaaay better than the base suspension bilsteins.
Not that the Bilsteins are a bad shock - they're excellent quality. The problem is the stock suspension settings for non-Z51 cars are just soft as mush. You can buy the Z51 P/N bilsteins and that will help considerably.
I have the KYBs in my 92. They work excellent. They stiffened up the ride so that it feels like a sports car, they prevent the car from bottoming out on speed bumps, etc.
I think they would get more respect on the forum if they cost $75 a pop instead of $30. They may not be of racing caliber, but neither are those base bilsteins.
Click on anybodys "my corvette pics" link below the avatar. When you get ot the page in the upper right corner there is an "Upload pictures" link click that and follow the directions. It usually takes 1 day for the Admin to approve them.I was just in the gallery and see you tried to upload but did not pick a catagory so it will be deleted. You must pick one(something/anything in C4?) or it will be deleted.

Phantom99, no reason to get nasty, I was just expressing my personal experience. I replaced my original Bilsteins with KYBs (from Summit) because of the price. They are great for normal around town driving. They wear-out in a couple of years and are down-right scary on high-speed curves (90 mph+). Still, they are an excellent value for the money, I just won't buy them again. There are better shocks out there, it just depends on how much you are willing to spend.
I just seem to have a problem that I can not fix myself due to lack of experience.
Didnt mean to get nasty I just get a little pissed when people add a reply to a thread, but in the reply they do nothing to help the situation, thats all.
Having opinions are great but sharing it at the wrong time in the wrong thread doesnt help somebody that is looking for answers, but no prob.
my comment was intended to spurn some thinking about the possibility of selling those shocks, and opting for bilsteins. the one post above has good advice which you may want to follow, regarding the Z51 version.

Hey MitchCole, I just noticed in your pics that you have an aftermarket stereo, What kind is it, did you install it yourself, did you get replacement speakers to go with it?
I have been wanting to replace mine.

You may have reached your conclusion by comparing worn-out Bilsteins with new KYBs. Apples and oranges.
New Bilsteins compared with new KYBs may have you reaching a different conclusion.
KYBs are a good value. To most of us, half as good for 1/4 the price is still a bargain.
To say they are as good a performer as a Bilstein may be stretching it a bit. In shocks, just as in most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Everyone has an opinion. In 94, I replaced factory base suspension bilsteins that had 5000 miles on the clock with KYBs. I purchased the car brand new July 3 1994. I never looked back.
The later years of the C4, the General was building them like a mid-life-crisis car with a cadillac suspension. Side to side was stiff due to the sway bars but front to rear was terrible. Soft as mush off the showroom floor. If that's your thing - then you're a happy camper. It wasn't mine.

Take a vise-grip and pull out the lower mounting rod from the bushing and swap it with the old one, your done.
Why revive a thread from 2006?
Point of the whole thread at the time was/is don't buy stuff on Ebay when you can get them direct from a vendor like Summit for the same price.
Ironically, Summit/Jegs now sell on Ebay.
