I searched past threads and had no luck so I will ask, how hard were the bottom bolts on the runners to install for you? I wound up removing the rocker arm (roller) and worked for over an hour on one bolt with no luck.
Here is the way I proceeded:
1) Installed the runner/intake gaskets and loosely installed all top runner bolts. Nothing tight yet.
2) Put the plenum on and loosely installed several bolts on both runners to ensure the plenum bolt holes would line up. Nothing tight yet.
3)Snugged two bolts on each runner just enough to keep them in position.
4) Removed the plenum.
5) Installed the remaining runner bolts but could not get the bottom ones to start.
I did not loosen up the snugged runner bolts in fear the plenum would not line up when reinstalled. As it was getting late in the day this is the only combination I tried.
Any advice from those with SR experience would be much appreciated.
Mine had allen headed bolts and I was able to get them all snug using a 6" long allen head bit. (The allen head lets you hit it at a slight angle)
What type of bolts are you using?
I am also using allen head bolts. My problem may be that I did not start all of the bolts in the runners prior to aligning the plenum. I thought by getting the top ones started it would bring me close enough to start the bottom ones without any issues. I guess I will start over and loosely install all of the runner bolts before aligning the plenum.
Did you have to remove the rocker arm that falls in line with the bottom bolt runner bolt?
start the bottom bolts first---that why the runners are slotted. -- I just had to loosen a couple of rockers and move them out of the way
That's the conclusion I have come too. I just ran out of time this weekend to remove what I had installed and start over. I appreciate all of the input. This weekend I plan to finish the install come hell or high water. It's getting time to put this thing back on the road.
Yeah, definitely get them started and then go at it like you did. Sounds like you should have it pretty easily then.
If I remember correctly I got the bottom ones started, and actually I then put them so that there was only minor play in the runners, you know enough to barely wiggle and get that plenum-runner alignment right. Then I did all the plenum to runner bolts tight and then locked down the bases of the runners. I also used RTV on everything. That SOB wasn't gonna have a vacuum leak on me! :-D
Anyway, from the sounds of it. You should get through it pretty easily!
