Default Need input on new engine combo.

Ok Looks like I am going to put a new 383 or 406 in the car now..

For now it will be N/A, but maybe supercharge it in the future.

So I am thinking if I get the engine built with :

Seal Power Hypereutectic Flat Top Pistons
Cam is hydraulic duel patterned high performance Cam
Double roller timing chain
Roller Rockers ,Molly Push Rods
Steel Forged Rods
Nodular Crank.

I have not decided on heads, but whatever I get will need the internal EGR passages, so probably another set of Dart Iron Eagle 200cc's.

I'd love to go Fully Forged, but that'll raise the cost by $1.3K or so..

I assume no one here has run as much "budget" parts as i have with as much success. That said, I am sorry i used the sealer power hypereutectic pistons. For some reason, the sealed powers have been popping like glass. Even on mild stuff. 2 engine builder friends have stopped using them because of it. If you must use hyper, try a different brand.

If you are sure you are going tu use boost, Id go forged, piston even if its a cheap one. A Scat 9000 series crank should hold up without a problem to reasonable boost. Dirt cheap, too.

Yeah, honestly. I would go with at least forged pistons.

Possibly even forged rods (if going boostt...then yes), those scat 900os are tough little mothers but how much boost willl determine that.

Remember, it might be 1.3k to go forged now. But next summer when you want to throw on the SC. It will be 1.3k + what you payed for the non-forged stuff already plus all the work to pull it all out, balance it, re-hone...etc...etc... basically if you are running boost. Just go forged.

As for the cam. Another thing, if you want boost. Why not go with a boost cam. As for the dual pattern. What heads are you using. I would figure out your top end and then get a cam that matches it. If you have good heads, you will want a single pattern.

Just my thoughts...

Good point as far as choosing compression ratio goes, building it twice would suck.
