I skimmed through the tech tips already, but I'll ask you anyway
I posted a few days ago about my recent problems. Number one right now are the headlights. Neither of them come up, at least not on a regular basis (the passenger side started working again and then quit). The tech tip on the bushings said that the motor would continue to run, mine doed not. The headlights both start to move (maybe a half inch) and then stop, along with the motors. The driver's said has done this before, quite a while back, but it started working again and hasn't been an issue again until now. It has been fairly cold this winter, but nowhere near as cold as many of you experience (occasionally down in the 30's over night). Are there any adjustments or lube points or anything like that? Could it still be the bushings or maybe the motors themselves?
Next task: Seat belts... (the driver's side doesn't come out without manually moving the release) But that's a whole nother topic for a later date.
how about pointing me in the right direction in the helms manual, I've been looking through it and found headlights in the electrical sections, but they work fine, it's the motors I need to find.
I'll jump in here and give an opinion baased on my experience....it is the gears in both of your h/light motors.
They are readiliy avail. and not expensive, but a bit of APIA to fit, as you need to disassemble much of the assembly...
If you need to drive the car until you get the parts and fix it permanently, you can manually wind the motors up, then disconnect the grey elec. plugs. This way the lights are up and you can turn the lamps on and off without the motors moving...Hope this helps..

thanks for the response. Do you just use the **** that spins on top of the motor? I don't NEED to drive it right now, but we have a dinner run with our club that I'd like to take the vette to. I'll try winding them up this weekend.
btw- I found what I was looking for in the supplemental service manual.
...sorry...you need to disconnect those grey elec. plugs BEFORE winding the motors up using the ***** on "top" of the motors....otherwise you may find that they will try and turn back on you...very suddenly!!
92 blk LT1 auto 71k...my headlights click after they go down..is it the motor too...did yours click before they stopped working?
It's probably the bushings in your motor/gears. I was in Autozone today and in the Help! section the had some pins for window regulators that looked just like the bushings I put into my motors last night. They were $7.99 and they came 3 to a pack, just like what the headlights use.

It's your bushings. The characteristic THUNKA THUNKA THUNKA THUNK!!!! noise four to six seconds after your lamps close is a dead giveaway.
Get the bushings from Eckler's, MAM, or Corvette Central or at Home Depot by asking them for item number 595609. They run about .69 cents for a pack of three. You'll need 6 to repair both lights.

I thought that 84-87 have the gear problem and NO bushings
Heres some info on the doors. By the sound of it, you may have already found it but others looking may benifit. http://members.shaw.ca/dankai/Headlight%20Doors.pdf

yeah, it seems that they have gears that fail. But when I was looking at MAM, they said early 87's, how can I tell if that's what I have?
