Default High Idle...WTF?

Ok, I'm driving home from work today and as I get into a little stop n' go I realize that my idle is stuck at 1500 rpms - hence the WTF? I tap the pedal...no change...continue cruising...no change. Stopped by a shop (mechanic there who's done some work for me before) once I hit my side of town, pop the hood and we both look at it. Nothing out of the ordinary, everything looks AOK. No SES, temp looks good, throttle cable stopping where it should etc...

WTF? I'm baffled as was he. So I drove it home and in the garage it sits...any ideas?

Been pumping steroids into the gas-tank again? Maybe TPS? Did you manually close the throttle all the way down?

Manually...yes.
When the throttle is "all the way down" it still idles @ 1500 or a tad less, which is far from the normal idle rpm.

Actually my battle plan is to go by the ZFdoc's tomorrow after work and take a look at the TB and see if something's up - as he thought the same thing.

If it's a BBK, then it probably is hanging up. Trevor had to sand mine down to make it work properly (took about 5 minutes).

TB a good place to begin, even a big vac leak can have that effect, brake boost etc.

Update:

I start her up this morning and she's fine. It's gotta be the TB hangin' up. After work I'm going by the ZFDoc's & do a little surgery and clean her up at the same time. Should correct the problem.

Thx for the help everyone...I'll post results of fix.

Jeff

Mine does that on occasion...usually when its cold out. It'll idle at 1000-1200 rpms....After car warms up, the idle settles down to 700rpm.

My solution was to lube the throttle plate, it would get stuck sometimes.....its the dredded BBk 52mm disease....

On a good note though, its been fine ever since...I will probabaly just lube it every 6 months just in case...
