Default Build recommendations?

Some things have changed for my build in my 86 cast iron (don't they always?). Since I just bought MrNuke's blower kit, I'm going to have to dig in a little further into the top end than I had originally planned.

Here's how it stands:

Right now, stock cast iron 86 with SLP stainless muff's and Dynomax y-pipe...sounds good....but could be more fun to drive.

Parts on hand/to be added:

Carroll supercharger kit including Paxton SN-60 blower pushing 9 psi with water/meth injection

Ported plenum
TPIS Big Mouth
Edelbrock runners
52mm Throttle Body
Erson cam 220/231@.050 .499/.512 corrected 1.6 lift 112 centerline
1.6 flat tappet rockers
Hedman 1 5/8" ceramic coated LT headers
AFPR
Gutted cat (oops!)
Hypertech air foil
Ganatelli 8mm wires
MSD coil
And, of course, I'll need a custom tune now.

I have a set of 3.56 gears to install, but I'm debating on these now since I don't believe I'll be able to hook this thing up with the blower....this is just my weekend cruising car and while I want it to be wickedly fast, it's not going to be a track racer. Thoughts?

I was also curious about head gaskets. The car has 132,000 miles on it, and I wasn't going to change them before I bought the blower. Now I feel this is a necessity. But I'm curious about type and thickness. I'm considering copper gaskets @ .093 compressed thickness just to keep the CR in check with the blower. But I'm not sure here....And of course now I'll be doing the 3-angle valve job and new seals to boot.

Thanks for everyone's previous input and parts/sales...this place is awesome!!!!

You're damn right you'll have traction problems if you gun it below 40mph..

I was runnig Dragradials (Nittos) on the street which gave me a LOT more traction than normal tires, and I still could smoke them up like crazy...

? Are you going to cut the heads?
Are the rings in the block still holding good compression.
What is the compression now?
What did your leak down show?

Hmmm....maybe I need to step up to ZR-1 size wheels and tires and leave the 2.59's in the rear, huh?

I haven't tested the CR yet...I've only driven the car 400 miles since I got it around Christmas...and I haven't experienced any problems to make me rush and do the test...but it is on my list to do. Factory compression for the 86 with cast irons is 9.0:1.

I've considered doing some mild porting on the heads, especially since I discovered a machine shop 2 miles from the house! But I haven't made up my mind here. I probably should enlarge the valves as well, just for fun, but we'll see what happens.

I'll know more about the bottom end when I begin the tear down...it seems solid, more solid than the 85 I once had...strong pulling, willing to rev. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed...

I think 3.56's will be too much gear for the car, I thought the consensous was 3.33's is where you need to be with a TPI and not so high rpm's

I would save the money on the heads and make sure that you have the fuel system up to snuff first. Definately some new injectors, probably a new fuel pump as well, filter for sure. Get away from the FMU if you are planning on using one.

I think 9.0:1 with 9 psi should be just fine with meth injection. I would save touching the heads until you need to rebuild the motor.....and you know you are going to want more power after a while too. I would take baby steps, and make sure you do each one right.

You did not mention whether 4+3 or auto. If it is auto with a long tube intake, then 3.33 is a great gear, but I found 3.45s to be too much with a blower, as you will need to shift to OD at the end of the 1/4 mile, which kills autos. If std, then start thinking about a clutch/PP, as it will eat the stock one without much issue.

Welcome to the addiction, there is no cure (except a wife w/ the checkbook).

I can help you with some on your list (intake parts, roller rockers, TB, etc.)

Sorry...it is an auto. I'll make a few runs at Moroso down here and see where my rpm's end up in the traps.

I actually have/or on the way all of the parts that I listed. Now its just finding the time. Your right about the wife thing...I have my stuff sent to my office address!

AKS..I'm actually from Houston. I still have alot of family there and get back at least once or twice a year.
