Default 95 vette speed sensor

I have a 95 vette auto that I replaced the complete rear end in and it's been about 5 years ago. The original rear end got chipped and bent when I ran over something in the road. The speedometer read 10 mph slower than I am actually going. I don't remember the size gears the original rear end had or the size gears that are in it now. I know that I can replace the speed sensor to match the rear end but how do you go about finding out what ratio gears I have? Sould it be labeled on the rear end somewhere?

Simply changing the VSS isn't going to cut it. An automatic has a wheel reluctor sending pulses to a computer (PCM?) and it will have to be re-flashed to match the new (?) axle ratio. A manual has speedo gears and I suspect that changing them will correct the speedo. Possible it can be re-flashed instead. Regardless you will have to know the ratio of the new (?) diff. All the C4 diffs have the ratio they left the factory with, stamped into them. A lot of people have trouble locating that number, plus ratios can, and do, get changed. The sure fire way to determine your ratio is to jack up the rear of your car and turn BOTH rear wheels, exactly ONE revolution, while someone counts the revolutions the driveshaft makes at the same time. If the driveshaft turns 3 1/2 times, you have a 3.54 gear ratio. Just a little short of 3 1/2 times is a 3.45, 3 1/3 is 3.33. Etc.

RACE ON!!!
