86 Cruise control question

86 Cruise control question

The cruise control on my 86 convertible doesn't work, and I have been checking it out using the GM service manual. There is a hole in the rubber diaphragm about the size of a pencil on the outside of the Servo . Is this the vacuum diaphragm, or is this just a rubber outer covering? It appears that "varments" have been chewing on it. Do I need to replace the Servo unit?

Yes, that appears to be the actual diaphragm. Maybe try a tire patch for test purposes! As I found out there can also be many other things in the cruise system that can go bad.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that it might be a problem. I've patched it up, and will check it out tomorrow.

86 cruise control problem solved

I patched up my servo diaphram with Permatex ultra blue gasket maker, and the cruise control works. I've go another one coming though.
