Default Hurst Shifter is in!

Just wanted to let those who are thinking about the Hurst that I got mine in today. Install went well although longer than it should because I didn't drop the exhaust. The lower boot that covers the gear shift rod was a dog to hold back and knock out the pin. :smash: The only trouble on the install was on the gear shift pivot pin. The pin must be installed exactly as it was taken out of pivot because of the difference in distance between the C-clip grove and the ends of pin. I must have turned mine around and could not reinstall the pivot into the housing until switching the pin. I don't know if this is just on the '96's or all ZF's but I would mark one end of that part so it goes in the way it came out. Also the pivot had to be rotated to the left of housing to get out, because of the pivot pin. Other than that it went well. I have a convertible so I had to remove the "X" brace as well. Well, that said, it is the far and above SUPERIOR to the stock shifter in every way. Even the girlfriend(who helped me install it) had a smile on her face when shifting it. Shifts are clean, the pattern is, way, way tighter than stock. This is what Chevorlet should ave put in all along! Chris, thanks for all the work you put into this shifter. I have pictures of the differences on the link below.

Nice size references on the pics. Thanks for the info. I think I will order one this week now. I was waiting to see some good pics to see if I liked the shifter height.

Thanks for the posts guys! Finally the ZF cars are getting the shifter they deserve. As far as the pivot pin, the e-clips positions are definitely critical to smoothly dropping in the housing-open end up on driver's side, down on passenger side. I wasn't aware of asymmetries in the pin ends, but retaining the pin in its original position is definitely a good idea. Keep those observations coming in!

Chris
