Cast Iron heads... I think I gapped incorrectly. I think they need to be .35 instead of .30. Just wanted to make sure before I spend the time to redo it.
.35 was good on my '57, ' 60. '65 and L98 with alum heads. Got a chuckle when I first looked at the manual. So, if you have iron heads, odds are .35 -- no change in over 50 years!
Modifications may call for different heat ranges. The gap is the tail end of the ignition system. It is based on what juice is being sent to the plug. No matter what theories any one has, the only way to find the right heat range is to try some hotter and colder plugs and read them. How and where you want to car to perform is also a factor.
I wouldn't worry about the .030". In a few thousand miles they'll easily be .035" and even .060" if you leave them in long enough. The center electrode wears down over time.
The user's manual for my 85 said 0.035" for R43CTS plugs. After I replaced all the plugs, I noticed a sticker on the radiator that said 0.045". Right now they're still at 0.035"
