Default Brake Failure???

I was doing a quick run in my Vette the other day. Picked a long, flat, deserted strech of interstate, ran it up to 140 mph. Everything ran up fine, no vibrations, etc. mission accomplished. Went to slow down, and I hit the brakes fairly hard, just to see how well they worked at that speed, and the pedal went to the floor, and the brake light came on, and looked in my mirror and saw a good ammount of smoke. No biggie, I was below 80 mph when that happened, but it freaked me out nonetheless. But, the brakes have worked FINE ever since, and I seem to have a good pedal. Hindsight 20/20, I had no buisness doing any of this in the first place, and do not intend on anything like it again, but I am a bit hung up on the brake issue. The local dragstrip opens up in a few weeks, and I want to know I have this issue resolved before I go and put a friend of mind to shame in his 05 Mustang GT, not to mention, it is nice knowing I have good brakes, even when driving around town.

About a month ago, I put on new ceramic brake pads, and drilled and slotted rotors at all 4 wheels, and bled all the old brake fluid out of the system. After this happened, I checked under the car for a possible brake line rupture, but found NOTHING. ABS? Master cylinder? I am at a loss...

Could be the m/c leaking into the booster or back into the reservoir. I had that light come on without warning or low pedal. A week later the pedal did go to the floor.

The light comes on when they'res unequal pressure in the front and rear circuits at the m/c. Failing m/c's can be intermittent, believe it or not.

You might want to "again" do a brake fluid flush and consider you might be having a wake up call on your master cylinder. Good luck.

If the pedal went to the floor there is a problem. The smoke could have been fluid leaking into the booster then gettting into the engine via the vacumm line? Is the master cylender still full? I would change the master cylinder just to get that warm fuzzy feeling that my brakes will work when I need them.
