I went with the Magnaflow cat-back system on my '89 L98. The sound is nice and not loud at all, just a bit louder than stock with my pre-cats and main cat intact. Actually, I wish it were a bit louder, but my wife likes it as is. 
The quality seems very good and the price was decent, like $456 or so from Hottexaust.com.

For twice the price you could put on some nice LT headers 
and leave the stock exhaust. It would sound deeper without being much louder, except when you step on it , and you'll get a good 20+ torq boost down low amd mid range. Of course it will still look stock, but then again sometimes that's the name of the game. 
Otherwise agree that Corsa is the way to go for good looking & good performing exhaust.

Power effects, expensive but last for ever. Also the biggest for me is the adjustability. Almost stock when closed but set of car alarms in parking lots loud when set full open. Always a fun thing...
