to say the least..... I installed a set of edelbrock heads, 270h camshaft... ported the intake and put an adjustable fule pressure reg on it and bought a chip from PCM for less... I did also eliminate the EGR circuit....
With either chip (stock or aftermarket) the car pops out of the intake... It has NO power under load and this all seems to happen while the dash board flashes hyrogliphics at me... Did I miss a connection? Ground or something.... Is the computer messed up (it could be from before as I had to jump the car from sitting and the battery was beyond dead).... The timing is at a static 4 deg (wire unplugged) I know I am still high on fule pressure at 42 lbs... But the problem is much deeper than this.... Could I have crossed injector wires? They seemed to find their home during reassembley.... I am kinda lost, as it did not run that bad when I took it apart (it smoked cold, but ran good otherwise)..
Are the grounds good and tight on block (drivers side)
Battery voltage good ??
Valve adjustment good ??
Just throwing some thoughts out
As for the injector wiring, don't matter as they fire at the same time.
I would go back and check all the grounds. I once rebuilt a honda and forgot some small ground. When I went to start the car it looked like aliens where landing. All the lights where going nuts, the speedo was actually bouncing back and forth. It was terrible.
I would also check to see if there are any stored trouble codes. That could help you track down the problem.
I do plan on digging back into it tonight.... I thought there maybe a "oh yeah, I forgot this connecton" that may be evident.... All help is appreciated.
here's a quick way to test the ground, grab a set of jumper cables and attach both cables to the ground on the batt. then attach the other cables to the engine and the other to the body, and see if it helps. when you attach the cable to the engine, make sure you attach it to the block and not an aluminum peice.
Thanks.... we put a scanner on it last night... no communication, we had tried to scan the car out before the changes and were not able to communicate as well.... We had pushed it off on the battery being dead as a door nail before hand.... guess where I am going next.....
Yep - ECM
It is an older snap on..... We had scanned it about a year ago when I had got the car and it worked..... At that time it was pulling a code (I am unsure of the number at this time and of course we didn't write it down) that lead to the EGR (burnoff?) sensor (that we changed), mass air, or computer.... For as bad as the car is running it even with the mass air removed it wouldn't be that bad.... we did try the jumper cable thing and it didn't change anything and searched for grounds that were off.... Dash still flashes and when that happens all hell breaks loose (car trys to die, backfires though the intake).... Under load it can barely move itself...
