Default Heads Question

Sorry for the camaro question, Im a C3 owner who happens to own an 87 IROC as well. I was given a set of free heads, casting 14014416, which were 305 heads on 86 z28s. my question is can I use them on my the 350 Im building for the 87 and just put in bigger valves and have them ported. Was going to spend $1000 on heads but these were free so don't mind putting a little work into them if they'll give decent performance with bigger valves and some port work. thanks

Not sure how that will turn out, but if you do not find the answer to your question here CamaroZ28.com is where I used to visit before I traded in the Z28 for the vette. Good luck

Some of the heads have different thickness. Tere are many different casting # on the LT1 or L98 heads. The guy who does your porting should know which heads are compatible for your application.

Gage,

The power of a motor is in the head design. I would HIGHLY suggest that if your going to go to the expense of installing the heads, that you put a set on that are GOOD. You won't regret it. Even if the rest of the setup is not yet optimized for the heads, you can work on it over time and with each change you will see bigtime improvement.

If you shop around there are some great deals on AFR heads. 190cc heads would REALLY be a huge improvement.

I realize these are free heads, but you would be better off, to get the heads if the guy is giving them away, sell them on ebay and put that money towards a good set of used heads.

If your going to put the time into the project might as well get the most out of it.

305 heads on a 350 are weapon of choice for circle track racers who run in classes limited to ''oem equipped''...for street use don't bother spending bucks on bigger valves, save for alum heads

go to thirdgen.org either in the tech or TPI sec. THere is a guy there who started a thread on portig the 416's w/pics. Did a beautiful job. Ill see if I can find it.

Nevermiund, its down right now....For the money you could get some Vortecs or Pro Action (Topline?)heads that would work great on the street. Remember, the newer heads not only have a better port design, but also a better combustion chamber shape whichreally helps the power out, many of the older heads use the old "bathtub" style chamber-inefficient.
