Default Rotor problems are solved!

A while back I had I decided to by new rotors off ebay. I had a damaged rear rotor and felt that I might as while buy slotted rotors instead of spending the money for an oem replacement.

I like the look... but they were terrible.

I have the J55 brakes so I ordered from gripforce and on ebay. I installed them and they felt warped and vibrated terribly. I called gripforce and they sent me a new set for the front. I took them to the machine shop before installing and found out the even though the rotors were brand new they would need to be machined due to inconsistencies in the slots. I was slightly pissed to say the least. So after two sets of bad front rotors that were brand new, I said forget it. I went to pep boys got the old fronts resurface, installed them, and the brakes have never preformed so well.

The slotted rotors for J55's from gripforce and terrible, I wouldn't suggest buying them. Hopefully I will get a full refund this week, but I still got stuck with the $60 shipping cost to send them back to CA.

Live and learn I guess...

Thanks for the info! I'm not surprised. A lot of those rotors on eBay are junk.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but very glad you posted. Very sad.

I will say that about 6 years ago I was talking with a tire shop guy in San Diego. That's when I first learned that there are such things as $5-$10 rotors sold, obviously, for more. Not saying that's what happened. But I learned an earful from this shop owner.

Good luck and I hope you get your money back.

Whether new or used, I always check rotors with a micrometer for consistent thickness all around and check the runout, when installed on the hub, with a dial indicator. I won't use a rotor with runout of more than .004".
Sometimes, by re-indexing the rotor, you can decrease the runout to an acceptable amount.

Well, I made the mistake of installing them straight out of the box, so when I got the "new" new ones I had them checked, and they weren't even close to acceptable specs. A lot of members on here have bought CD/S rotors from gripforce and love them, but I can garauntee that they weren't J55's. I still have the gripforce rotors on the rear and they are fine, but are they better than the stockers.... I doubt it.
