i want to ask you if you have done away with the factory cooling fans and installed an after market set up for what ever reason. which brand did you use? how about fitment and install? one fan in stead of two?

I've also heard great things about Spal fans - I was looking for a while and was going to go with Spal. Then I cleaned the OEM radiator, added two bottles of water wetter and reduced the coolant mixture to more water, less AntiF, and put in a 180* T-stat. now it rarely gets over 210* in 80-degree weather in around town driving with a 383ci superram and 2600 stall converter.

I also added an in-dash over-ride switch to the relay for sitting in traffic, etc. By the way, I only have one OEM puller fan and I'm not sure of it's flow rating (it's an `84). Unless you've seriously modded things, you could probably do just fine with the stock stuff. With that said, there are a great many things I've "upgraded" solely for the sake of having a project.

Do you have a pusher and a puller, or just a puller fan?

I just replaced the aux. fan (that appears worthless) on my 89. I put a Derale 14" Tornado shrouded fan in its place as a pusher. It mounted right up to the evaporator without any mods. I have the fans on a remote switch so I can turn them on when I want. I put a Be Cool rad. in my car some time ago and it helped sitting in stalled traffic in desert and Vegas traffic in the summer for a while w/ ac on. Eventually the stopped traffic would win and I would have to turn off the a/c. This should help alot. Won't know until it gets hot! Puts alot of air through the radiator though!

I've replaced both fan motors on my 90 with OEM parts. The replacement fan motors were Made in the USA, looked like they had good windings, fit was obviously good. They also had a "dust guard" around the housing vents. I suspect what does these fans in is the amount of dirt passing through. My primary fan failed at around 70K, I elected to replace both fan motors. In heavy traffic, Free Air Temps above 95F, temp gauge is dead in the middle, and I've had the scanner hooked up to cross check calibration. If your cooling system is in good shape, the factory fans/motors are just fine.

Of course, if you want after market stuff, no problem here.

I typically avoid import parts.

im curious about this as well. the factory single puller fan on the early L98 cars obviously wasnt good enough since they added the pusher fan to help out. im wondering if there is anyway to trim up the radiator shroud so that you can install a twin spal setup? is the radiator even large enough for the twin 11in spal fans? what about switching to the later angled back radiator and shroud? or is this more than a simple swap? i've got ideas. i am just not sure if any of them would really work, or which ones would be better. thanks
