The AIR pump on my '92 LT1 is really loud. Up till now I've just ignored it and waited for closed loop so that it would shut up. I could replace it but I rather just disconnect or disable it. I tried simply unplugging it but got an idiot light. Can anyone advise how to disconnect this thing without the engine knowing? :-)
BTW, I searched like a good boy and didn't see this asked.
My 93 comes on when I disconnect mine. I actually had it hooked up electrically, for awhile but the hose not connected and it sounded like a shop vac under the hood. Mine is getting till it wines when it is on so I know what you mean by the sound. If I were you, I would send a e-mail to www.pcmforless.com and ask Alvin if it can be programmed out. But my concern would be how will it effect an emissions test and will it harm the converters by not running.

Thanks.
There are also some biasing the computer uses when the airpump is active.. I remove those but it shouldn't cause any noticable difference.
Can I ask.. Why remove it? it doesn't help performance any.
I didn't check the code, cuz I knew why the light was on. Hooked it back up and the light was off.
By "programming it out" I presume you mean a custom PCM chip which doesn't throw a code. Neat idea but for that amount I could probably replace the pump (presuming a new pump would be quiet).
What I'd really like to do is "hotwire" the connection so the computer thinks the pump is still there.
That might work. I just dont know. I do know when I first put my headers on and did not have the pump tied in, it would set a code and turn on the light. With the pump plugged in but not plumbed, it sounds like a shop vac. Good luck, and let us know if you find a way to bypass it without programming it.
With me the car fixed its self. The pump was bad when I got the vette so pulled everything out. The light was on for about two months then one day I went to start the car there was a pop and everything was dead. When I started to unhooked the battery I could hear the relay clicking. I hooked the battery back up and everything was fine. Sense then no light and no code.
I've shopped around and finding a replacement for this pump is HARD and the one that I did find was EXPENSIVE, like over $300. Surely (Shirley?) others have encountered this problem and simply disconnected the pump as I did, encountered the code as I did, and figured out a way to trick the ECM into thinking the pump was operating normally. So, I will ttt this thread one more time.
TIA!
John

That's all I want. I agree to your terms so long as you provide your own transportation to Ohio!
Seriously tho, if you know of an adapter I am all ears! Keep in mind that this is a '92 LT1 with an electric AIR pump, not an L98 with a pulley driven pump.
I can burn a memory adatper chip that plugs in between your stock chip and stock computer. It will have the stock program on it minus the Airpump checks and enrichers.
On another note I will be in NE ohio doing a tuning day in the next month or so
