Default No electrics

Only thing that works on my 85 vette is the courtesy lights. Driving home last week and everything stopped dead, all electrics stopped. Towed home and found it to be a red fusible link which comes off the battery via the starter solenoid. Traced the wires and they go to the ignition switch and the alternator.

Replaced fusible link with temporary 5 amp fuse connected battery and still no power.

There is about a 70 ohm load when the ignition switch is turned on.

Any clues??

Andy

The alternator output wire has its own fusible link. The wire going to the ignition switch also has its own fusible link. It is possible that you blew the 5 amp fuse because the current exceeds 5 amps in the wire you installed the fuse. Check it. Those fusible links are essentially very high current fuses. For instance, the fusible link in the alternator output wire is equal to a 117 amp fuse. You cannot rely on an ohmeter reading when you turn on your ignition switch because the ohmeter is not a 12v source.

And they are a "slow blow" fuse too.
