Question on 87 power seats.
I have a question on power seats on my 87. Several of my seat functions do not work. The worst of the lot is the passengers seat that will only go forward and thats it. My seat goes forward and back but no other functions work ,however, when I move the switches I hear clicks but no motion. On the passengers side I cannot easily remove the entire seat but with the cushion removed I see 4 bolts that appear to be holding the seat bucket to the lower mechanism. Can I remove the 4 bolts and take the seat bucket out so I can trouble shoot the motor/electrical problems ??
Help
Regards,
Don in VT
There is one connector under the seat which must be opened and the bolts removed to pull the seat.
It's really no big deal to pull the seats & tracks.
Do you have sport seats?
No I don't have the sport seats just the normal 8 way seats. I can't get the lower seat rails out because the seat will only go forward but I can easily get the 4 seat bucket bolts out. Can I get at the track mechanism connectors and motors from above (or maybe the seat track bolts to the floor) and trouble shoot the problem ?
Thanks
Don
When you hit the switch to go rearward do you hear a "click" as though the motor is being powered but simply cannot move the track? Or is the click only heard at the switch.
If the latter, try removing the connector and jumpering power in either direction to see if the motor will rotate.
I just checked the situation and here is what I have.
This observation applies to both seats.
Passengers seat - When I push DOWN on all the switches the motor runs but it sound like it is at the bottom of its travel. When I push UP on all the switchs I hear nothing. When I push forward on the switch the seat moves. When I push back I hear nothing.
Drivers seat -- When I push DOWN on all the switches the motor tries but again it sounds like it is at the bottom of its travel. When I push UP I hear nothing. When I push forward on the seat switch it moves and when I push rear it moves.
That the situation as of now.
Thanks for all the help
