i've heard the vortex isn't worth it and a cut lid with a k&n is just as good

i heard its great from 3 guys i know who have it how can it not work its taking forced air from the radiator shroud. It wont show on dyno because of no air flow. Any other opinions on it thats why i posted i want the best bang for the buck.

I was in the same position you are about 3 weeks ago.

I bought a new Borla cat back system, I almost bought the vortex ram air but due to the overwhelming negative responses on the board I decided against it.

Unfortunitely since this was the first time I had a large lump sum to put towards my vette since owning it, I had to put most of it towards maintaining and replacing parts that have been on the car for 16 years and should have been replaced over a decade ago. Some new hub bearings and roller rockers

Hmm...I think you'd have to be going pretty darn fast for this "Rammer" to really start "Ramming" any air. Like 150+ mph for a significant gain.

I dont know ill research it but my friends say they noticed a big differance with it especially 60 and above the only thing is the cut lid still takes air from the engine compartment the vortex rammer takes it from the radiator shroud where it scooped up they say the is alot of pressure there but the only way to really test it is at the track with et the dyno wont show it my friend says it gave him 3 tenths i dont know though .

If you want the most for your money, I'd spend the first grand on gears and a t/c. You'll have enough left over for a catback and then some.

rr's are going to give you about 10chp. are you willing to go further in terms of the engine?

if i were you, i'd wait until $4k is saved. then do heads, cam, superram intake, long tube headers. get it all done at once. then you're set. really, no need to mickey-mouse it, do it right. as for rear gears, i don't have an automatic, but from all i've read over 3 years on here, 3.07's on an auto L98 is all you'll want anyway, so you're good to go there. i'm also assuming you're mostly street use, and aren't betting dollars and donuts all week at the local dragstrip.

a word on the superram intake.....it will extend your usable rpm range to the upper 5,000's.....you can hog up your intake all day and never get there. i'd take the stock tpi off and get rid of it, first thing. its the major choke in your system as it stands. gm really gave it us good on the corvette L98 intake, damn thing was meant for a 305cid, so we got the KY jelly big time. when i had my stock tpi intake on, power would drop off in the low 4,000's and i mean pronto......the supperram will allow for a flat powerband straight thru to about 5800. its beautiful, man.

i will never go back to stock. stock sucks.

If you're basing your rpms of your stock tach, the early analog tachs (namely 90/91) are notoriously inaccurate. You're probably getting to mid 5,000's. Are you sure you don't have an aftermarket manifold like Accel, TPIS Bigmouth? And how about large tube runners? At any rate, this manifold + LTR's will still only get you to upper 4,000's usable rpms......I'll bet the house your tach is waaaay off. A ported stock plenum is going to do just about squat for performance, maybe 5chp.

The BPP Vortex on a stock LT1 will get you about a tenth in the 1/4 mile. You won't notice any gain until about 80 mph. We tested this thing at the track.

I don't know about the L98

For 2k, I would suggest heads, a cheap 2 1/4 dual exhaust or LT1 exhaust, intake base and runners.

Hmmm,
C5 Zo6 brake calipers w/ 13" front 12" rear slotted rotors and pads,bias spring,ss lines

Long Tube headers

1.6RR's

Then save another couple grand and add Heads/Cam/Intake

Then another..........

Then another..........

Spend the money on exhaust and the TC, you dont need gears.

Do NOT buy the Vortex.
