Can anyone tell me what a code 42 is on the SIR?

Also, how do you reset the codes?

hi

code 42 means....

its the very best code ever used..code 42 indicates an intermittend open or a burned out INFL REST Bulb by lighting this bulb!

the culprit is most likely a half broken bulb, or a bad DIC connector contact.

you can reset the code with this procedure:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=46&TopicID=2

i had to try it x times before it worked...you have to be very careful on measuring the time!

Thanks.

I installed some reverse-glow gauges on my car and when I put the instrument cluster back in I left out 4 of the bulbs that were used to light the old gauges up. Did leaveing these bulbs out cause this problem?

I also saw something about 3 fuses for the airbag system? One says "Air bag" one says "Clstr" and then a third one called "crnk-a/b" in the auxiliary fuse panel? Where would this panel be located on a 90 vert?

Where can someone find the codes used for the SIR?

And you allready answered my next question about resetting it. I will have to give it a try.

the code 42 will be set, when the Cluster fuse is removed, and the ignition turned on.
the cluster fuse is fuse box, located on the passenger side

was the code 42 there before?

Do you know what exactly you have done?
was the DIC removed when you turned on ignition?

Yes, I had the DIC off when I turned the ignition on. I tried a few times to clear the code with no success so I was about to take it to a local Corvette specialist to have them reset the light at a $40 cost. I tried it one last time per the instructions in the tech article and got it cleared. I used a remote starter button instead of a jumper wire. Everything is roses now.

As soon as I get my lateral acceleromter from vette2vette I can put the console back together.

Seems kinda funny. If the system turns the light on if the bullb burns out how could you tell?

Kinda like if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around.........etc, etc

good to read, that it worked out finally

it was a pain for me also, trust me....i tried it, like i said, really x times, before it finally worked....

if you had the DIC off, you have set the code 42 because you had an open in the bulb curcuit...
