My Chevrolet Parts and Illustrations catalog says 88-91 for p/n 10455702 (which is the nippon-denso starter - the smaller one). But it also says 92-96 used a different p/n 10455709. I know they are both Nippon-Denso starters, but I am unaware oif the differences.

I have the 10455709 in my car ('85). Only needed a minute area on the mating surface ground flush to make it fit.

I have an '86 clutch dust shield that leves a gapping hole area where the old style stater fit. Sooooo, I'm chasing down one that will fit perfectly around the mini-starter. (manual trans)

I wonder what the difference is and if they're interchangable?

To my knowledge they are interchangeable, but they might need some shimming and/or a wiring alteration.

Can someone post a pic of the original fat momma starter and the "new mini one?" I'm kinda curious to see the difference. What were the advantages of the smaller "mini starter?" Thanks!

half the size, about half the weight

the 84-87 starter would also be impossible to remove without removing the passenger side header
