Thanks Rick. Sami is pretty excited and nervous. He is having no luck at all. I feel bad for him. 2 motors and 4 transmissions in a few months is quite a bit to take. Hopefully his luck turns around.
I hope you can turn his luck around. Have u received his shortblock?
Nope, they accidently shipped it to Atlanta. Should make it here about wednesday. See what I mean, no luck at all
As soon as the cheque clears, I will ship it! Poor little brown guy. Pete you going to Bowling Green in May? I am heading down with 3 local ZR-1's. It is going to be wicked. ZR-1 vs Muscle cars etc......Show and Shine/Swap Meet etc........Heading down with Dwight/Mike/Curt. Dwight has a 415 ZR-1, 575RWHP. It should run good.

Unfortunately, I cannot make it. Going to a wedding in Tampa, florida followed by a trip to disney with my wife and daughter. Maybe next year.
I have a 87 convertible that averages around 20-21 mpg in town and I have got 31 on a road trip. I had a 95 coupe that I got 33mpg on a road trip. All cruise control. It is possible but not a fun way to drive a vette
I might sound like an idiot but i never take my cars to the track, i would rather not know what they run because if they run 15 or 16 sec how embarrasing would that be? That would eat at me terribly. And if your not on a budget where you can work to make it faster your stuck. I do have a question though, back in the day lets take 1990 for instance, what would have been the benifit for a person to buy a corvette vs a Mustang GT? The mustang could have been had for cheaper and been faster off the showroom floor right? I know, its not all about speed and power for everyone, but you would have thought they could make it faster than the lower priced cars, am i not right?

A Mustang GT, Faster off the showroom floor? You might have to prove your point there........Those GT's were slugs.

Ok, I just got back from the track and my best run of the night yielded me a 14.56. It was freezing outside (34 degrees) and my 60' sucked (2.22) but come on isn't that a little slow? My mph was 96.6, so that's a little better, but what can I do to improve the rest of the time. It's a 90 6 spd all stock with spare and metal waterpump thing removed.
ski is right, you need to improve your 60ft. You should be able to get a 2.0X 60ft with good street tires.
Also, what are your shift points? For a stock 90 6spd you'll want to shift around 4500rpm-4700rpm. The stock power drops off quickly around 4600rpm. Also, if you can, verify your tach. 90's are notorius for having incorrect tachs. Mine currently reads 2000rpm high. It wasn't always this bad, but has gotten worse over the past couple of years.
When I launch, I try to give it a few thousand rpm at the line, then progessively engauge the clutch and add more throttle to keep the tires just slightly slipping. Engauge the clutch as fast as possible.
My car, also a '90 6 speed coupe, ran mid 14.4's stock at 96mph. The good new is it does not take a whole lot to REALLY wake one up. I've opened up the intake side (runners, intake, rockers) and exhaust side (catback, no pre-cats) and really made some super gains. The car is really pretty dang fast now. Last trip to the track was a 13.10 with a 8.38 in the 1/8 on Nittos. I feel pretty sure LT headers will put it in the 12's pretty easy.
Just read this forum, everyone and their ugly sister gets 32mpg, runs 13 sec qtr miles and can shoot guns in the air while driving with one eye closed.
32 mpg thats nothing when i called for inquiring about one 93 LT1, the owner said he got 38 mpg on trip from San diego, CA to las vegas npw u figure...

Not really as close as you think. My buddy's 90 LX 5.0 with headers and true duals (no cat) managed a best of 14.691 @ 96.1. (on video).
He is a 120 lb. driver to boot.
I also have on tape (somewhere) a guy on corvette day at Lebenon Valley NY back in 98' with a totally stock (down to the paper air element so he claimed) 1990 6speed Vette. His Time on Video 13.88 @ 100.xx.

He would have run faster without all the exhaust stuff. I've seen cars slow down when thats all they do. He was throwing torque away (less cyl. pressure) which was the best thing he had going for him. A good running 90 5.0 5-speed with sticky tires and a good driver at sea level should have no problems running 14.0s and maybe quicker. I know a guy that ran 14.7s on regular radials here locally and our air is usually around 5500 ft. density altitude during racing season. It was a totally stock car. Just for comparisson, my friend's dad had a 89 C4 with an auto and it typically ran 15.2s.
I'm not here to bash corvettes, my personal 12 second 89 GT (in same 5500 ft air) with a vortech is for sale so that I can either pick up a LT-1 C4 or a M3 if I can find a decent deal on one. I just want to set the story straight. In lurking around this site, I think too many folks here have very limited track experience and really don't know what car is how fast vs. other cars. There seems to be a lot of loyalty and faith in the vettes, which is not unexpected, it just may not be an accurate view of reality.
Hey braindamage, I had a friend that owned a 93 LX(lighter than the GT) that ran a best of 14.77 with an H-pipe,shifter, pulley's,shorty headers and an K&N filter. Afterwards with new gears, chip, new clutch, Drag Radials and advancing his timming he got down to a 14.20 @ a sea level track. On average, the earlier C4's will run a 14.30 or 14.40 stock with a decent driver, whereas the mustang's would usually be good for 14.70's to 14.80's stock from what I have seen and read.
Mostly, like anything else, I think it boils down to driver experience, track prep, temps and altitude of track. On a side note, I owned an 87 T-type that I ran once, at the same track as mentioned above and it ran a 14.08 with a K&N filter, gutted cat and chip. Also, that time was ran with a crappy 2.22 60ft. As mentioned above, these are my observations and not set in stone, just passing along the info from a different perspective, thanks for reading.
