Default drag strip ? gears

i have 91 auto 383 with superram with 2.59 gears when i hit the gas at the stripe all i do is spin the wheels. will a change to 3.07 gears help me on my times or am i still going to spin with the 3.07. i use the car as dd so if the 3.07 won't make a huge deal. maybe i should stick with the highway gears. i don't want to spend the $ if there is not enough value in it for me. thanks for any info.

if youre spinning with 2.59, its only going to be worse with 3.07

what are the 60' times and what tires do you run at the strip?

3.07 gears are good all around gear set, but you need to be able to plant the power before stepping up to these gears.

What tires are you running? At a min you need some drag radials.

My stock LT1 3.07 blows the tires off if they aren't DR or
MT et Streets.
Don't judge the car by the gears, but by the tires you have on it.
My LT1 almost stock blows the standard tires off until I get to 3 gear.
My 434 with 3.33 blows the tires off in all gears.
Wider wheels and tires may help but the tires make the difference.

I would have to concur with the above posts. My 3.07 with stock tires and rims would sit at the drag lights and just burn. With my newer engine, it was even worse. I tried even letting air out of my tires. It wasn't until I finally shelled out over $300 for BFG drag radials, plus rims to mount them on, did I finally get traction right from the get GO. Then I switched up to 3.55 Dana 44 and I slightly spin now at the track, if I mash it hard after power braking it before the green.

I am going to go against the grain and say go with the 3.07 Now before everyone flames me let me say why. With 425ftlbs of torque at the rear wheels you are going to tear the dana 36 up with any kind of traction at all. Now since the dana 44's highest ratio was 3.07 and it seems that a lot of people like that ratio with this motor combo, it probably is a good place to start.
As a rule of thumb, for every tenth you can drop your 60ft time, you will drop your overall time by 2 tenths. So better tires are a must. My personal preference for tires is to have a 2nd set of rims and use ET streets. For me, they dead hook with little or even no burnout. The disadvantage's are they are terrible on the street, which is why I say on 2nd rims, and they are a little squirlely at the end of the track with radials on the front.
I dont know what 60ft times you are running now, but IMHO with that much torque you should be able to 60ft in the 1.5x range on a good day assuming you have a automatic with a proper sized stall, good tires etc.
Oh, one other thing I wanted to add. Back in dec. 2000 Vette magizine did an article on a 95 421ci LT1 motor making 1,000 hp on nitrous. Its et was only 11.40 sec, but its mph was 142. Can you imagine what that car could have done with traction?

here is some more info. i have a 2400 stall. i have been to the track once (loved it). i had r/t from -.oo1 to .588 and 60' from 2.0 to 2.3 i know that is not that impressive but i am trying. my best run was
r/t .513
60' 2.203
330' 5.6
1/8 8.401
mph 89.69
1000 10.832
1/4 12.897
mph 111.91
i have an extra set of stock rims so maybe i will get a set of DR's but with my dyno numbers at 367rwhp @4900rpm and 427rwtq i hope i won't tear up my dana36 or will i?
or do i need to just hit it at 3/4 throttle for about 50-60 feet?

That dana 36, with the power you are making is going to be your glass jaw. If you do much drag racing with the power you are making and you get a few good hooks it will come apart. What is saving you now is no traction so you are not able to apply the power you have. Not saying you need to run out and buy one now, but start looking for a good deal.
