Default Coating older headers

I am continuing to look at options on my header/exhaust situation. Current set up is LT-1 with a LT4 hotcam. No head work. Hooker super Comp LT Header, No emissions, Not cats, B&B Triflow.

Here are some options:

1. Take off the headers (Hooker Super Comps) and send them into be Jet-Hot coated to reduce the heat issues. However, I was told by a local mechanic that my older hookers may not hold up throught the ceramic coating process and they may not last for long as the super comps are thin metal and they are already very rusty.

2. Go back to a stock exhaust manifold or shorties.

I would leave the B&B cat backs on the car in spite of the resonance (Running out of funds!). I will leave the cats off the car for now.

If I take off the headers I am concerned about having a noticable drop in power. But if I leave them on the long term heat issues (again, uncoated headers :o ) will bake everything under the hood.

Anyone ever cross this bridge? I will sit back and listen!

I'd go ahead and have them glass beaded first. If they have any weak spots, you'll know ahead of time and they could be repaired easily enough. They'd have to be pretty rusty to not hold up to that. Then you can go ahead and get them coated.
