hi guy,
as you all know i now have the 4l80e trans installed in my 93.
The Vette Shop in Pa is now making the trans mounting setup for the install. their # 1-215-322-9590.
if your tired of rebuilding the 700r and 4l60s trans because of high HP, this is the only way to go. strongest trans on the planet.
regards gene
when i get the car back i'll take some photos. i've seen the install, workmenship cant be beat. the vette shop is the only place will touch my car from now on.
regards
I am happy with the reliability and the electronic shift.
I am in the process of putting a trans brake in it as we speak. And changing the converter to try a different launch style.
I will be selling my Coan 4000 Stahl with lock up for the 4L80E Its brand new, has about 20 passes on it and no street driving. Its a good coverter, for foot braking but with the Trans brake I wanted to try something different.
Let me know if your interested

no they make their own bracket that bolts to the back of the 4l80e trans tailshaft and the trans mount making it very strong. the c-beam bolts to their bracket that 1/4" steel. the drive line angle is 1.4, gm specs. 1.0 to 2.0 its almost a perfect angle setup. the vette shop in warminster, Pa dose some real nice fab work. these guys have done one hell of a job on the engine install and the trans set up. working on the headers at present. anyone living in the tri-state area this is the place for any vette work to be done an done right. to me i would drive even 8 hrs for the work they do. their web site is the vette shop.com this is a top of the line shop.

That sounds like a really tough tranny even without even without any internal work. Is any modification necessary to the tunnel to make it fit under the body?
jeff
the trans fits perfect in the tunnel with no mods or cutting. the trans is a rapture done-up 4l80e with their computer. the guys at the vette shop said its the best trans computer they ever seen. they are also adding a button to push to shift the car without moving the shifter its a trick thats built into the computer.

No mods to the tunnel, it fits in nice
I did things a little different when I installed the 4L80E
I also put in a 9" ford Solid axle. so here is a link to the pics if your interested.
lots of good info barcardioil, i'm on my third 700r4, did you have to leghten or shorten the drive shaft? did you use the 4l80 yoke? is that tranny using an independent computer to shift properly?
the 4l80e is the only way to go, yes the driveshaft needs to be shortened. 4l80e yoke needed. iam using the rapture computer for the trans, it the best trans computer to use, it has a trick built in the computer that you can use a button to shift and not move the shifter + many other things. its the best, nothing like it. the vette shop in pa is making the hole setup for the install very nice work. there # is 215-322-9590 ask for shawn or john, tell them gene told you to call, nice guys, great work and great fab work.
I use the TCI T-Com and you can use a button so shift with that controller too.
You have a part throttle - MPH shift curve for each gear.
You have a throttle - line pressure curve for each gear.
You have a WOT upshift RPM for each gear.
You can use a switch to select 'manual' mode. Then you have one button for upshift and one for downshift.
And some more selections.
what is the best year to get if you were shopping around for a used 4l80e? i know the 91 to 2003 are almost the same, but some tranny guys say that the 95 is the most tempramental and it also has the one year only electronics. i can't really affort those hard core rapter trannies, looking into possibly getting a used one.
just as side note, www.the-transmission-center.com also sells an adapter for the 4l80e that will connect the c-beam to the tranny and it includes a new 27 spline out put shaft so that you could re-use you stock drive shaft. the adapter and output shaft retail for 700 big ones.
4L80E in C4 Corvette Adapter (1984 - 1996). Swap your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission to the much stronger 4L80E transmission with our new double strength case hardened output shaft and adapter kit. At this time we have in development an adapter kit for the C4 Corvette to replace your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission with the much stronger 4L80E transmission. This 4L80E transmission will be the same length as your 700R4 / 4L60E transmission making it possible to reuse your existing 27 spline driveshaft and C-beam. All that needs to be changed on the 4L80E transmission is the tail housing and output shaft. The full manual shift model works without a computer.
jobe remember i got the idea of doing this from you. the vette shop used 1/4 steel to make the bracket setup which attaches to back of trans and trans mount all in one. jobe very close to yours. tci and my computer must be very close, i also have all of that + 1/8 1/4 + 60 foot timing stop watch. you must have that also. my trans has the harden 30 spline shaft with the l80 yoke. stronger.
