If anyone could help me id apprecitate im setting my timing on a 1990 350 engine and was wondering how i do it i heard you have to disconect a wire if so which one?
Disconnect the EST wire (brown W black stripe) back by the firewall on towards the passenger side. It is a single wire that comes out of a loom, has a single wire connector on it and then goes back in the loom further along.
Block the wheels, set the parking break, start the car (ignore the check eng light), let the idle settle in, put the car in D (if auto) and set the timing to 6* BTDC. Put in park, turn off the car, reconnect the EST wire, either disconnect the neg battery terminal for 30 seconds or remove the the ecm fuse located on a pigtail along the positive cable. Reconnect battery/reinstall fuse. Remove the blocks from the wheels and you are set.
Morley: I have set the timing on my 89 by having the trannie in Drive and in Park. It does not seem to matter on the timing result as they are the same. What is the reason for setting the timing in Drive? jUst curious!

First time I've ever heard about putting it in D to set the timing-of course this is my first vette with an auto. Bought a spectre timing tab-neat looking thing with a slide indicator you can lock down-I'll probably put some lock tight in the screw holes. Then check the timing in D.

I think it tells you on the tag that is on the side of the radiator. At least I think that is where it is on my '85
Having a problem with mine also, it is a 94 model. Just installed the distributor (spline type master spline ) base timing is extremely low. It is a reman dist. and I know I am going to have to pull the water pump off and replace it, but any ideas as to why such low timing ?
