Default 1994 Otpi Spark

Has anyone used the new MSD optispark dist? The MSD catalog lists a 92-early 94, and late 94 to 96. How can I tell if my 94 is an early or late 1994 engine? I really would like the MSD dist. , but I don,t want to order the wrong one. HELP!!

The new one is vacuum vented to prevent condensation. Otherwise, I believe they are identical. One your intake "accordian", do you have a vacuum hose sticking between the MAF and TB? If yes, you have a new one.

The late ones have the vacium lines to vent them installed from the factory and the old ones do not. They also connect to the engine shaft differently so get the right replacement or you will heve to change the timing cover also.
I do not think the MSD one is available yet, Dynaspark makes a very good upgraded Opti for the 92.

I believe the vented opti was used on 95 - 96 LTx cars, I don't think it was changed in mid 94, but I may be wrong. In any event I don't know if the MSD is actually available yet. If you decide to get one don't just order it over the internet, call and make sure they have it in stock and ready to ship. Having said that, the dynaspark replacement for the opti has been around for several years in both Gen1 (92-04) and Gen2 (95-96) flavors. Everyone who has installed one (including me) has been pleassed with the product.

Their catalog is wrong. The Corvette didn't get the vented opti until 95, not in late 94.

Would there be a way of checking based on your VIN number which model you have? I have been wanting to know this as well since I have a 94. Everything always seems to raise the question of two types available for a 94.

The confusion comes from the fact that the Impala ss/caprice got the upgraded opti in 94.

Default I need a new opti!!

How many of you guys have the Dynaspark opti? How many of you guys bought from the new owners of the Dynaspark product line? Are there any other solutions other than OEM or Dynaspark that would make economic sense? Sorry for all the questions. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
