If your already hooking and have low 60 ft. times then you don't need slicks, if your spinning bad and have poor 60 footers then you need slicks or try lowering pressure in rears. HP and Torque and 60 ft times dictate the need for slicks not 1/4 mile times.
Well I was just curious to see if I could eventually get in the 11's with just street tires. I was wanting to know if it was even possible at all or if I was restricted by my tires.
I think Evan Smith (writer for Fast Fords mag) went 11.96 in a Viper w/street tires.. However you will need a hellova lot more HP than you have to hit 11s on street tires..
Remember.. Good ET is a matter of traction, & chassis set up... High MPH requires more HP
Take my car for example.. when it was BONE stock (3.07 rear) I ran 13.20 @ 105 mph in good weather, & good track..
Now I have NOT increased my HP but changed Gears, Converter, wheels, & without adding HP I now have run as quick as 12.48 thats .7 tenths quicker without making more HP... but my MPH only went from 105 to 108...
John Mackey has the EXACT same car as me, & was running almost the EXACT same times... but now he had heads, & cam etc.. & he is running 11.7 at 116 mph.. his HP is giving him the MPH.. now if he had street tires on his car he would still run "close" to 116 mph maybe 114-115 but his ET would go up to 12.30 because he had no traction..

John Mackey has the EXACT same car as me, ..
ohhh, MR Panuzzo I think there's an error in your quote. Since I had the mods first You copied me. I didn't copy you. like your new tires.
But if you want to say I copied you, thats fine, The world is great, and all is well. No fight from me the :blueangel: :blueangel: :blueangel: :blueangel: :blueangel:
I never said you copied me or I copied you.. I was just giving him an example of two similer cars..
YES you had me switch to the 3.73s, Vigilante etc... & you were always running a little qucker, but I was trying to explain the difference between HP = MPH & Traction = ET..

how come you never explained that stuff to me(HP = MPH & Traction = ET) :(

I ALMOST FORGOT :blueangel: :blueangel: :blueangel:
At what 1/4 times are slicks required to get good traction? I'd like to go as fast as I can but without having to put on slicks.
On my local track you need slicks if you have an 18 second car :(
Actually, I recommend slicks for ANYBODY racing a Corvette, bone stock from the factory they are capable of spinning anytime. A racing buddy had a 90vette with the stock torque converter with measly 2.59 gears and he would spin frequently... a simply switch to drag radials improved his consistency and ET's so much that I swear it was the best Bracket car on the planet.... he would run the exact same # run after run after run. Too bad he couldn't cut a light to save his life. :D (You listening Steven)
I have to second what Beach is saying. My stock 89 Vette with 315/35/17 Dunlop tires will spin at the line everytime unless I let the car roll out of the hole. This gave me very poor 60' times( 2.0 - 2.1)
I use BF goodrich DR's now and have much more consistancy. My 60' times are now about 1.85.
