Converting my 86 to black and just replaced the carpet. I was going to see if this worked before i go and buy new trim plastic. Has anyone had any luck with spraying plastic trim with Krylon Fusion or something comparable? I am not very optimistic but its worth a shot. I want to use the funds elsewhere... like a full exhaust system
I used an adhesion promoter spray called "Bulldog". Then I shot the door panels, door sills, and other interior pieces with some Dupli Color flat black vinyl spray paint from the local parts store. It worked equally well on the carpet. I converted from a faded gray interior to a fresh dark black. For the plastic and vinyl peices, the key is to clean them off real good before painting and using an adhesion promoter. It really makes the paint stick. I used rubbing alcohol for the cleaning.
I figured I'd give it a shot before spending hundreds on a new interior. I was happy with the results.
Here's the before picture of the exact same interior minus the seats.
Where did you get the bulldog spray? Is Vinyl spray the same as the Krylon Fusion? I never really thought about the carpet but the trim looks great, especially since I am not building a show car. Yes! Now I can use the extra money for POWER!

I got the adhesion promoter spray at a local auto paint supply store. It might be under a different name in your place. I've never used Krylon fusion, but vinyl sprays work for your intended purpose. With the promoter, the paint really sticks. You could hardly scratch it off if you do it right.
the fusion paint wont crack if you flex the part you painted, ive painted dirtbike plastics with it and it hasn't cracked. very happy with the results!!
