I just purchased a Zex dry nitrous kit #82018 for my 95. I paid $529 including shipping and handling. Anyone have this kit? What kind of improvement did it make at the track with the 120 shot? 1/4 times? I will wait until it comes in at the end of the week before I decide to install myself or have it done. I may just run all the wiring and lines and let a pro shop finish it off. I lost my hypertech programmer to Katrina so I'll have to get a new one first to change the timming back to stock. This is my first nitrous kit. Does anyone familiar with this kit have any suggestions? I hope it will fit in the compartment where the convertible top goes. They said it's 8" in diameter which is the same size as my subwoofer currently back there. Since it must be installed inches from my head do I need any saftey equipment other than a blow off valve? I'm not too worried about engine saftey since the zex kit claims to make adjustments based on bottle pressure. I plan on running two purge lines exiting from the lower body moldings in front of the doors? Anyone done this before? How difficult? What about spark plugs, wires, fuel system? Any upgrades or replacements needed there? I have about 70k miles on the car. I know they havnt been changed at least since I bought it at 40k miles.
I ran at the track this weekend and for some reason I ran in the 14 second range all day. Can't figure out why. Used to run 13 second range all day before any modifications. That is why I finally gave in and ordered the kit. I don't think I could handle the embarisment of being beat by a stock mustang. (sorry ford fans) I just hope that something else isnt wrong causing the lower numbers.
Most Any 120 shot on a mostly stock LT1 will usually yeild a solid second from your quartermile time, even more if you have good traction and spray all the way from first gear.......About your sparkplug question....I usually run autolite 104's or NGK TR6's for your particular kits HP rating....either will work fine.. I prefer the autolite 104's for up to 130HP, and autolite 103's for up to 175HP.... any of them gapped between 35-38thou......any of these slightly colder than stock plugs I listed are still just fine to drive everyday without excessive fouling....(No platnium plugs with nitrous).........Another VERY important thing, "especially" with using any "dry" nitrous kit......Trust me, DO NOT chance using your stock 95 injectors, I can tell you from years of experience that they have a "strong" tendency to lock up under the fuel pressure spike exerted on them by a dry nitrous kits fuel enrichment.(some guys get away with them, MANY don't)...they were never designed to handle operating at double the pressure.....the ford motorsport SVO injectors are of a different design type that handle the pressure spike much much better..there are other brands also, but these are most affordable and work great.... (as far as what size to get)24LB SVO injectors are near perfect for an otherwise stock(or even slightly modified LT1 engine). The injector problems I listed have to be the biggest reason you'll find 90% of all people favoring wet nitrous kits.....Don't get me wrong, Ive installed and ran dry kits for many years, It's just the danger aspect of the dry kit is higher because everything is always hinging on having just "one" out of the eight injectors becoming clogged, locking for a split second, or failing from the extreem pressure spike....and usually none of these sceneros will give you a second chance without engine or head gasket damage.......Im not trying to scare ya, but since it's your first nitrous kit, I think you should have some info ............another thing to strongly consider on your 95 would be getting an MSD digital 6 box for a few important reasons......one reason is so that you'll have a really hot consistant spark(super important when running nitrous)......Having an adjustable revlimiter that will VERY IMPORTANTLY "cut spark" NOT FUEL like your stock 95 PCM.....One hit of the stock revlimiter while spraying and the motor will be hurt from going lean.....and also, so your able to pull exactly how much timing you want "only" while spraying.....pulling 5 degrees will be a safe start for the 120shot(Rule is retarding 2deg per 50HP)..........also pick up new sparkplug wires(cheap insurance), the MSD 8.5 are a good choice.....and make sure you fuel pump is in proper working order.. (if you want to be safe as possible) a racetronix replacement pump kit, or an inline push style wallbro pump would work well.....a window switch is also a good idea.......good luck............Joe

wow, I didn't realize this would get that complicated or expensive. Thanks for all the info. I'm going to visit BowTie Automotive (Local Vette shop) and start to inquire about installs. I hoped to keep it all well under $1000 but I guess that may have to change. I've never changed injectors before not sure if I should try. This is my everyday driver so usually I take no chances. I've done all the mechanics on my 67 firebird but thats a whole different animal. I've read that spark plugs can even be a pain well one of them at least. What is the rating on the stock injectors? Could I go with the new opti distributor from MSD they are about to release for c4's? I was going to order a new hypertech programmer to put it back to original timing or is there another way to go? Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I am new to most of this. Any info on least expensive place to order injectors, plugs, wires, distributor?
I ran a 75 wet shot for a year with no problems. Running through a bottle a week. Everything else was stock aside from exhaust and K&N. Same old optifart and fuel pump. No window switch or anything. I do like the window switch though, especially on street tires.
What about ASR does that affect the fuel supply? I'm guessing it should always be turned off when using NOS. I forgot to turn it off Sunday at the track and it turned out to be my best run of the day. Probably means I'm still having serious traction issues.

Wet shots are very different..no injector pressure spike for the fuel inrichment...And I hear what your saying, Iv'e had friends over the years where we did low buget nitrous installs...sometimes running 150 shots on otherwise bone stock cars....some ran for quite a while and others did not....It's just that the odds are heavily against this type of approach being trouble free for many years.....if it's a motor you don't care too much about it's one thing, but many Vette owners (including myself) consider the extra $500 or so, a small price for a lot of longevity insurance.........

Yea you always want the ASR off while racing....And yea, if your going faster with the ASR on, then you need some more traction bad ...... if you need any help just shoot me a e-mail..Joe122672@yahoo.com....good luck......Joe

Thanks again for all your help
......No problem on the help ............The new MSD (complete) distributor should be a pretty good unit but it may be some time still before you can actually get one(MSD takes forever).......the stock injectors are 24LB.....but since the SVO are a diferent design(pintle type) they flow and perform much better all around(especially for your dry kit)....you should have no problem replacing yours on your own....about a 10min job....really nothing to it....just relieve the pressure at your shrader valve (under the black cap) on the hard fuel line on the rail so you don't make a mess while trying to remove the injectors....lubricate both sides of your new injectors o-rings with some clean engine oil and pop them in...I get everything from summit racing...Theyr'e about the best prices, and they'll return anything even months later......I would send your PCM to Bryan at PCM's for less(just explain to him what your doing with the car).....to get a good baseline tune, and have the factory (fuel cutting ) revlimiter raised up as high as it can be(7200) is about max.....this way your MSD digital 6(when you get one) will handle the rest(revlimiter, timing retard Ect......)...........Joe
