Hey everyone.
I have a 1993 lt1. For some time now ive been having problems with the ac and the interior lights. we have taken it several times to a corvette specialist and a seperate mechanic and with the ac its usually a temporary fix and the lights have not been able to be fixed.
First off with the ac. The ac blows air but never cold, usually when it comes out of the shop it will work for a little while but then stop working again. im not sure exactly the work that has been done to it because its my father who used to take care of those things.
With the interior lights. when the outside lights are turned on and i hit a bump or the car moves over uneven road the interior lights come on and the doors unlock as if a door had been opened. it only gets worse with the top down or the windows down.
Please if anyone can help on this situation i would greatly appreciate it.
Not sure what to say about the EC except it soulds like the heater door is hanging up and the hot ait from the heater is mixing with the cold air. This would account for it working when the car is cold but not working when the car heats up.
The interior lights sound like the door ajar switch is not adjusted properly and is grounding when you hit a bump. Try taping a peny to the door jam where the door ajar switch hits it and see if this cures it. If it does you need to adjust the switch by pulling out the tip and gently closing the door until it is fully locked.
About the AC even when u turn on the car and put the air on right away its still usually hot. its just cold when it comes out of the shop and stays cold for a few days.
About the penny, i will try that as soon as the car gets home.
Thanks for the help i appreciate it.

I have a 93. The guy I bought it from didn't want to pay the expense to replace the R12 freon. The freon was so low, it wouldn't engage the low pressure switch. What he did is instead of adding freon, he ran a on/off switch to the passenger compartment that was frame ground on one end, the other end was spliced into the same wire as the Green/with yellow stripe on the Accumulator (big silver thing on the firewall passenger side) low pressure switch. That way he could switch it off/on inside the compartment even when it was too low to work. His thought was, if it burned out the compressor, so what, It would be replaced with a R134 type.

However, for you, Are you sure your compressor is turning on? I would turn it on real cold, and see if the compressor is engaging. If your not sure, I would just install a jumper wire across the Accumulator switch. By using a 1 inch wire, you will be able to force the compressor to turn on.
Secondly, I'd run the self diagnostics first!!!!. Goto http://vettenet.org/ac_codes.html This site will show you how to self test your a/c (take about 2 minutes).

The ac sounds like slow/medium freon leak. A halogen sniffer should be able to find it. If that doesn't then have the shop add dye, run it for couple days, then do a UV check for the leak. RE-door light switches, a little shot of PB Blaster might free them up better.
