Default Instrument cluster- clear panel removal question

The inside of the clear platic covering the Instrument cluster is dirty and I wanted to see how difficult it would be to get inside to clean it and reinstall. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it even possible to remove it? I read the tech tip on how to swap out the entire cluster but I'm still not sure how to remove it. Any info would be grealty appreciated.

Are you sure your looking at tech tips https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=235&TopicID=2 ????
This is well written and goes step by step. The only item you need to add is once cluster is removed, remove the torx screws that holds plastic covering of the cluster.
Exactly which step are you getting stuck on? The bottomline is you must lower the column (about 1 hour), remove 4 screws on plastic cluster bezel (2 minutes), Remove 4 torx screw holding cluster in dash (4 minutes), then pull cluster out (1 minute). With cluster out, remove screws holding plastic covering.

I did this to me 92 and you do not need to drop th esteering column to do it.

1. Tilt wheel down.
2 rempve 4 screws that hold cluster bezel ( you will need stubby phillips screwdriver).
3 Remove bezel. ( a little tight but it CAN come out)
4 Remove 6 thorx screws that hold the lens in place and remove lens leaving the rest of the cluster in place.
5. I used a polishing wheel with red rouge polish to remove all of the stains and hazy spots. It now looks like new.
6. Considering the cost of the lens it is a job well worth doing.

Hope this helps.

You'll be surprised, most of what you see is actually on the outside of the cover. I figured that out after removing mine. Regardless, in order to get it lookin' perfect you need to take it out. I used a high-speed buffer and some plastic polish...thing looks like glass now!

Follow the instructions above for removal. I had mine out, buffed & back in the car within an hour.

Good luck

You do not need to lower the steering column. But it is a tight fit. When I bought my 94 about 2 years ago the bazel was in real bad shape. I just replaced it with a new one from "Art's corvette parts". Never thought about fixing it but I don't think the cost was to bad.

I tried to remove the Bezel without dropping the steering column and just cant seem to get that thing out- that thing is a very tight fit

Now that I know where to get a replacement part maybe I'll give it another try. Thanks
