Default Lowered C4 owners step inside .........

I am finally putting back together the front end of the car now that the rear is done and have installed the lowering wedges on the front spring. My questions is: Who has/has not removed the 1/4 inch thick aluminum spacer ( 1 inch wide by approx 5 inches long ) that sits up against the frame? Second part of the question is: How much did your front end drop? I am unsure whether to put the spacer plate back in and it was a real PITA to do this front end job and really dont want to have to do it again. Thanks all in advance.

I'll chime in but I think the front spring is different depending if you have a coupe, convertible or sport suspension.

I have a 93 40th convertible. I added the lowering wedges and cut off one of the spacers at the end of both sides of the spring (it had two 1/4" spacers at the end). I then bolted everything back up and it still didn't sit low enough. I then removed everything again to get the 1/4" sacer you are talking about out. I havent't driven the car around but there's enough for 2 fingers between fender and tire. I hope it settles a little bit more.

Thanks, I have a coupe with the FX3 suspension but not sure which springs I have. I dont ahve a build sheet unfortunetely. The sway bars were the small ones ( 26mm fr and 24mm rr ). Anyway, I didnt notice any spacers at each end of the spring only at the two mid point mounting areas. I take it there are others at the lower control arms? I dont remember seeing any, thats funny.

on the bottom side of the spring near the ends you should see a 3 letter code. find the code and you can find out what spring # you have.

If you are talking about the spacers im thinkin about that are originally on top of the spring, I took them and put them back on underneath it. Thats what the instructions I got said to do.

Was it really a PITA? I'm thinking about getting a lowering kit for my '88 'vert (Z-52 suspension) but wasn't sure how much of a pain it was going to be and whether any special tools were required. How long did it take? Don't say any idiot can do it - I've learned I'm not just any idiot when it comes to things mechanical - I'm an extra special idiot

Lucky for me my son-in-law is a car guy with actual skills!

Seriously - how much time and what kinds of tools are needed for this job. Also, has anyone used the lowering kit for sale in the CF Store?

Thanks

After doing that I only dropped 5/8",, but have since learned my stock bushings were petrified wood. Since swapping bushings, the front has settled more, I'd guess about 1" total, but I haven't measured.

It looks damn low in this shot:

I removed the aluminum shims.

If you have the old style steel spring retainer brackets I highly suggest buying the newer aluminum ones and cutting them down.

I have a Vert and I put the spacers on the bottom of the spring put the car together and went for a ride. The drop was not what I expected, so I took split the ball joints again and cut off half of the pads on the spring ends. Now I have a decent drop.
