I just changed out my cap and rotor and now my car wont start. I have landed all the wires right according to my manual and have even checked them against my dads 86. I have spark. I didnt change the angle of the distributor. Ive done this many times before and didnt have any problems. What am I missing? If it matters my car is an 89 auto convertible.
Are you getting spark at the plugs? If yes then double check to see rotor is same as old one and installed correctly. No spark=check for ignition wire you might have left loose, including coil wires.
make sure your wires are setup correctly. 18436572 firing order. But first i would take off number 1 plug and stuff a rag in it to find tdc on number 1. When it pops, trace the plug wire to the distributor and look under the distributor cap. Is the rotor lined up with the wire? Sometimes this is off by a wire and the whole thing is off. If everything was placed back correctly, possible the module popped. I usually carry a extra module just in case. Hope this helps...
Thanks for all the help. I used mad mikes idea to find tdc on #1 and found out the distributor was set about 200* off of where it should have been. Put everything back together accordingly and it fired up perfectly. Thanks again for the help.
