Default how to tune up?

my 95 is in dire need of a tune up i believe. the gas mileage is shot and there is intermitten skipping that will fix itself at random. anyhow the plug wires are new. other than that, what can i do to "tune up" my car and make it run more efficiently. the car has no AIR stuff and has headers with no cats, and 3" exhaust, and 1.6 RR's. thanks in advance. i'm looking forward to getting it running cleaner.

You could certainly start with new plugs-and maybe some new 02 sensors if mileage has plummeted. I'm not all that familiar with optis.

i was already planning on doing that. but are there other things i can do? adjust fuel stuff any way? adjust timing? clean something out( not air filter, it's clean) ? someone has got to know a good way to freshen up a LT1. please?

You might add a good cleaning of your throttle body and iac. After a good cleaning, it will run and idle much smoother.

I replaced the Dist Cap,Rotor,Coil & Module in my 85.Also installed NGK coppers topped off with Moroso 8mm wires.

It woke my 85 up! Cost about $200.

try looking at your throttle position sensor, see if it could be reset. Defiently check timing, quick 5 min job couldnt hurt.

I had a high RPM miss and decided on a full tune-up. Heres what I did:

-Plugs
-Wires
-Air filter
-Fuel Filter
-Tranny oil change
-Tranny filter

Car was like-new after the tune-up. Major power improvement

On your 95, the computer controls the timing(so it's not adjustable without reprograming)......From what you have posted(depending on the mileage) if above 85,000 , I would consider getting ready for a opti replacement....when the failure prone opti-spark is getting ready to go, It's very common to get misses here and there that seem to majicly come and go.........another thing I'd highly recomend since your running headers and larger exhaust without cats is getting a mail order tune from a reputable tuner such as PCM's for less.....they can optimize your spark and fuel curves to get you a little better performance and gas milage........

I would do all the stuff they said to do first like replace all the maitanence stuff like hoses, wires, plugs, clean the throttle body really good, air filter? If it runs good after that but your still getting crappy gas mileage you could run some seafoam or similar cleaner through the intake to clean it out. Also running a cleaner in the gas tank to clean the injectors wouldnt hurt either.

i would start with the fuel system first. things that i did that made me fall in love with my car all over again:

- fuel filter
- fuel pump (strainer broke, pump was all clogged up)
- spark plugs
- o2 sensor
- air filter
- timing
- TPS adjustment

id also recommend hoses and flush the coolant system, good thing to do before summer hits. adjusting the TPS really made my engine more responsive.
