I jumped in my 92 LT1 this morning, it wouldn't start unless I held the gas pedal down and kept it running. I had to keep it running, if I took my foot off the gas, it would just die.
Over the week, I've been noticing a low idle, about 400 rpm (made the steering wheel shake) It always seemed like it was going to die, and it did once at a stoplight. It is worse with the AC on. Also, hard starts on occassion.
Lucky me I jumped in my 88 L98 and took off anyway... but I still need to get it together. Any ideas???

my favorite post....here we go!
my car idles hard too.....between 490 and 750 RPM, and it bounces back and forth a lot......i was told to check the MAF (not sure what years had the MAF) but if you have one, check that by unhooking and restart the car....does it idle better.....then replace it! i hear they are about $140....so before you replace, have someone with a scanner check for codes....there are 2 possible codes for the MAF....i am not sure, so i won't tell you anything to confuse you!
good luck though!
good call....and if you are gonna change it, you m ight as well move it to the front (get the relocation kit from mid america) also called a MAT sensor?????
is that the one that is under the plenum??????
if not, then totally disregard what i said
I got a can of Gumout throttle body cleaner and just followed the instructions, remove air tube, spray 10 seconds, work butterfly 10 seconds. Got me running smooth again and got my idle back.
I'm sure it was the IAC, it did idle a little high every now and then going to work, but came down with a tap on the throttle. I'm going to replace it after Carlisle, I have to get my 88' Z51 ready for sale up there. ANYBODY INTERESTED???.
