What will the CCM do without the ECM communicating to it?? I am thinking of going to an aftermarket EFI system but have been worned that the CCM will have a problem. What problems??? Who cares?? The gauges and trip/fuel calculators should still work in my best estimation from looking at the wiring diagrams.
So if a light on the dash is on, I will just remove the bulb. Big deal, right??

The SYS light on the LCD will always flash.. if you go to an aftermarket ECm , I think iif you kept the stock ECM, connect power ground and the Serial lines you should not have any flashing or annoying lights
I normally keep the GM ECM in place and piggy back a stand alone system into the GM harness. I have one in here now that I am working on which is a 90 C4 using a 7727 GM ECM, everything works as it was before using this method.
