Default Passive Keyless Entry

Help needed PKE system. I have a 1994 Convertible LT1 and I have gone throught the programming instructions and it works but will only keep its mem for .5 to 1.5 days and then back to using the keys manually. I have noticed that when driving down the road the door ajar light comes on every once in a while and a ghost rider keeps jacking with the lock and unlock switch but never seems to jump out and just keeps riding along with me....damn and she does not even pitch in on gas nor put out.lol If anyone has any clues on this I would be most greatful. I even went and purchased a new key fab and still get the same results. Thanks, Tim

If you can program it and it works, than the Eprom in the passive receiver is programming. However if it is loosing the memory it might be defective hence the passive PKE receiver is bad.

As for your door locks, if the PKE receiver is going south, your door locks run thru the receiver and it can effect it if its taking over. Of course a short in the car could cause the door locks to activate or even a bad switch in the door could be the reason. But is seems that if you are having a memory problem in the PKE, the two problems could be linked together by the PKE. Best of luck

The PKE receiver is behind your Driver Information Panel, you have to remove the dash pad to get to it. I bought one for my 93 at the Chevy dealer, $350.00. It turned out mine was not bad, I had 2 broken wires between the doors. If you NEED a receiver let me know, I had mine for sale here and it did not sell.

You got the answer, lots of work to take pad off. Be careful plastic breaks easy due to age. Have done this lots of times and going back again because my PKE is out at this time and on the bench trying to fix it, mine is dead dead. Oviously my power locks dont work at this time. Another person with similar problem in tech close to your post.

The doors locking and unlocking could easily be the door ajar switch. When mine does this, I always change the door ajar switch and that take care of the problem. The switch is a little over $20; so its worth a try. You will need to remove the door pad to disconnect the switch.

Not sure about the 94 but on my 92 I have changed the door ajar switch several times without removing the door pad.
The FSM has a procedure for this.

1 First remove the top screw
2 Loosen the bottom screw.
3 Twist switch slightly to allow you to insert a longer screw in the top hole so that you don't lose the backing plate.
4 Rempve bottom screw and pull switch and wire out through hole.
5 disconnect wires and reinstall on new switch.
6 Reassemble in reverse order.

Hope this helps

On my car, I cannot get the wires to come out far enough for me to disconnect and reconnect the connector without removing the panel. My wires are taped down and I was afraid to cut the tape in fear that I might accidently cut a wire or something else to cause a bigger problem. But, I will agree; if you're wires will extend out enough; there is no need to remove the panel.
