Seriously, if you want to keep the vette, let us know what is going on so you can get her on the road again.

1. 95 vette with blown motor is worth more than you owe.
2. mechanic is giving you some really bad advice, why replace motor for overheating, oil leak, failed smog? Those can all be relatively minor problems even with that kind of milage.
3. find a forum member and/or better shop asap and BEFORE you spend money on anything else.
4. examples--overheating could be simple as a fan relay, even air not purged out of engine (unlikely but dirt cheap to fix), oil leak can be a gasket or seal, smog could be bad o2 sensor.
5. you might have 2 or 3 different problems, proper diagnostics can identify all of them and then decide what to do accordingly.
6. Good luck and hoping it is all relatively minor.

Without a doubt. They tried to sell me a $400 computer module which didn't fix the problem so I told them to take it back.

I guess that's all I can do. I just want to make sure that my car is worth fixing. It's scary after what I've been through. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks!

There is a shop in Rancho Cordova that a friend went to for a clutch quote. She has a 96 CE with 50K. Drives it daily and the clutch pedal went soft. Took it in and they quoted her over $3500 to include a new ZF!!!!

All she had to do is add some fluid to the clutch res.

These guys have a rep for being a quality shop. Something tells me they prey on the unsuspecting.......

PM me your phone number. I have a good mechanic that loves Vettes and is interested in helping you get back on the road.

Bet he offers to "take it off your hands", too. Build a motor for it and ignore the odometer and K.B.B. values. If you like it, keep it.

Just a thought. Do both gauges go up that high? If I remember correctly they use different sensors. Maybe it's one of the sensors. See if the analog and the digital read about the same. Good luck, Robert

Sounds like your cooling fan is not turning on. My car got up to 240 degrees once before I knew my new fan relay wasn't on tight enough for a good connection to the wiring harness. Good luck

Do your fans work?

Is it running lean? Did it fail smog on NOx? HC? CO?

Mechanic is a synonym for theif. That guy is probably trying to drag you down then "do you a favor" and "take it off your hands" for a "smoking deal for you" of $2000. If you want help you need to provide a little more info.

They both peg out and I hear horrendous(?) boiling bubbling sounds after I turn the car off.

That's what I thought too, but like I said, if I start it up cold and let it idle for over an hour, the whole time the fans turn on & off at the right tempratures without the car overheating. It's when I put it in gear that the temps start rising.
