The governor, located on the side of the trans, is easily altered to adjust the shift points. The hard part is knowing the correct springs and weights (in grams) of the unit. In other words, the labor is easy, but the correct combination of parts will be trial and error. Most guys who know, will not part with the info. B&M and others make adjustable shift point kits that contain a good assortment of springs and weights to get you started.
no, the governor on the trans is the only way with these units. the springs & weights determine the shift points. i hope mine are adjusted properly by mad dog. if not, then i guess i'll be shifting manually at the strip

I have a Mad Dog TRansmission in my Vette. If I lock it into 1st, it still shifts at 5000 rpm. I will be calling him soon to get the correct springs and weights to move that up to 5800 - 6000 rpm.
Ok we are going to start taking apart this 700R4 trans. Can't we just buy a part that does this and replace it.
There is a guy on ebay who claims he can sell you a governor with the shift points you desire. He mods them to suit your taste. I believe he gets$90 for this. Run a search on 700r4 and have a look.

and unless you are rebuilding the trans, installing a shift kit, etc. there is no need to take it apart to just change the shift points. you don't even have to drop the tranny pan. the governor is located towards the rear tail housing and can be accessed with the trans in the car
